An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (3 days per week, 22.5 hours per week) Band 2 Radiotherapy / Health Care Assistant to join our friendly team at the Worcestershire Oncology Department based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
We are looking for a patient-focused individual with excellent communication skills, who works well as part of a team.
The successful post holder will work alongside radiographers, consultants, and other health care assistants to ensure the smooth running of the oncology clinics held within the Worcestershire Oncology Department.
As well as carrying out general clinical duties such as escorting patients to/from clinic, you will also be required to carry out other duties such as taking blood samples, performing simple dressings, and some administration duties.
Working days will be Monday, Thursday, and Friday, with some bank holiday working required. The hours you will be required to work will depend on the department's working hours and will vary between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Main Duties of the Job
Your role as a Radiotherapy / Health Care Assistant is to work alongside registered Radiographers and consultants as part of the department team to provide care to patients.
You will mainly be based in the oncology outpatient area within the oncology centre managing the smooth running of these clinics. The types of duties may include:
1. Helping people to mobilise.
2. Assisting patients with toileting.
3. Bed-making and generally assisting with patients' overall comfort.
4. Monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight.
5. Chaperoning patients in clinic.
6. Taking patients' blood.
7. Assisting clinicians and radiographers in the clinic setting.
8. Performing general duties as required by the radiotherapy department.

Job Responsibilities
Additional Aspects of Care
1. Moving and repositioning of patients.
2. Dressing/undressing of patients.
3. Tying up of dirty linen bags and dispatching to laundry.
4. Cleaning and tidying examination rooms/clinic areas.
5. Making beds and ensuring the department is kept clean, tidy, and safe.
6. Replenishing (including ordering of) stock/resus trolleys.
7. Assisting with patients' mobilisation, ensuring a safe environment and using appropriate techniques.
8. Accompanying able patients to other departments.
9. Assisting in the care of relatives and visitors.
10. Chaperoning professional staff where appropriate.
11. Measuring body temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration, and completing the necessary documentation.
12. Measuring patients' height and weight as directed by a registered health care professional/clinician and recording on the appropriate documentation.
13. Carrying out phlebotomy as per ICE request.
14. Ensuring specimens are sent to the appropriate place with the correct paperwork.
15. Being involved in booking in of patients into the department area.
16. Being adaptable and flexible to working in various areas of the department/ward as required.
17. Assisting the multi-professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and/or investigation while maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
Communication and Relationships
1. The Healthcare Assistant's relationship with both staff and patients should be discreet, bearing in mind that all information regarding patients must be kept confidential.
2. Reporting to the radiotherapy service manager matters of concern relating to patients and the ward/department environment.
3. Answering the telephone and referring to the appropriate person.
4. Attending department reports and meetings when appropriate.
5. Greeting visitors to the department and ascertaining the purpose of their visit.
6. Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of health and safety at work to maintain a safe environment.
7. Undertaking duties outside your working area (e.g., delivery and collection) to assist in maintaining good communications.
8. Ensuring the privacy and dignity of patients at all times.
Cleaning
Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of clinic area, bed bay, and equipment as instructed.
Undertake a range of clerical duties; this may involve:
1. Basic computer skills.
2. Assisting in the preparation of medical and nursing notes for clinics.
3. Assisting the booking coordinator as required.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working in a patient care setting or customer-facing environment.
* Experience of working within a healthcare setting/Nursing Home.
* Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant, phlebotomist, or radiology assistant.

* Self-awareness in terms of assessing own knowledge and competence and understanding own boundaries.

* Able to present a professional image appropriate to the working environment.

Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal, listening & written).

* Basic keyboard/computer knowledge/skills.
* Able to use trust systems (ICE, Bluespier, Clip, PAS).
Qualifications
* Basic standard of education including Maths and English.
* NVQ level 2 in care.
