About the role…
As Avove prepares to enter its third year as a stand-alone company, our approach to communications, both internally and externally, has never been more crucial as we continue with our Avove growth strategy.
Joining Avove as our External Comms and PR Lead, you will play a key role in our external communications and brand strategy, learning to use our guidelines to protect our brand and reputation whilst also promoting brand advocacy and providing support to the wider business. You will work closely with our marketing and communication team, as well as our account teams to develop content that can be used to create engaging communications suited to a wide variety of channels.
We want this role to challenge the status quo, encourage different points of view and drive creativity as well as bring insights to the role. You will find yourself part of a crucial team to Avove and its strategy, and you will be empowered to make a difference.
What will your day look like…
Working with the marketing & comms team, as well as all the accounts we work across, you will build content and media relations focused on our key strengths. This includes water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure, vegetation management, design and construction:
1. Support the Marketing and Communications Manager in the delivery of Avove’s communication strategies to support the business and our ambitious growth strategy.
2. Develop engaging content across multiple strategies using a range of media including press releases, web copy, case studies, blog posts, email and campaign copy for both internal and external use.
3. Coordinating media calls and pitching for media interviews.
4. Identify, develop and deliver creative and engaging media and communication campaigns which highlight Avove’s key strengths and expertise.
5. Develop media and PR activity aligned to Avove’s Strategy, which tell stories with impact (right content, right time, right channels).
6. Build relationships with key journalists across a range of media and manage their interest.
7. Create an engaging range of content to showcase Avove’s expertise, news and success.
8. Draft award-winning entries to celebrate the success across the business and raise the profile of Avove.
9. Use innovative multimedia channels to engage and enthuse key audiences and stakeholders across the organisation.
About you…
A passionate, creative, proactive and solutions-driven communications expert committed to exceptional external communications and media relations.
Ideal candidate will have:
1. Excellent writing skills.
2. Excellent media relations skills, including experience of pitching stories and building relationships with journalists.
3. Enthusiastic and motivated to effectively deliver projects to deadlines.
4. Strong negotiation, influencing and persuasion skills.
5. Confidence to communicate clearly and effectively to people of widely differing levels of seniority across the organisation, both in writing and in person.
6. Ability to interpret complex information and data and develop key messages.
7. Degree Level Qualification in a relevant field – minimum 2:2 qualification.
8. CIPR accredited.
Key Skills…
1. Minimum of a 2:2-degree qualification - preferred degree subject qualification: Business, Communications, Marketing, Digital Marketing, Journalism or English.
2. Working as part of an in-house team or PR Executive looking for their next level.
3. Excellent communication skills; written and verbal.
4. A good and developing understanding of a variety of communication channels, including digital and social media channels.
5. Creative thinking seeking to solve problems with good visual sense and design awareness.
6. Ability to prioritise and manage tight timescales.
7. Confidence with the ability to suggest ideas.
8. A good degree of self-awareness and mindfulness of which communication styles work in different situations.
9. The drive to collaborate with others and a willingness to learn about the wider business.
10. Respect for others and an understanding of working with diverse and hard-to-reach audience groups both internally and externally.
11. A proactive and personable approach to being a trusted representative of the team.
12. Awareness of a complex stakeholder environment.
13. Experience of dealing with the media.
14. Experience of delivering impactful integrated communications campaigns.
15. Experience of using analytics tools to measure the impact of communications activity.
16. Experience of creating engaging content across multiple channels for a wide and diverse audience.
17. 3-5 years working either in an agency or in-house.
