We have an exciting opportunity to come and join our dynamic and friendly Speech and Language team at the Central England Rehabilitation hospital.
You will be supporting the inpatient Speech and Language therapists with clerical and administrative duties and the patients with activities such as therapy programmes and groups alongside therapy and assistant staff.
We can offer flexible working hours across the week.
Main duties of the job
To support the therapists and work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide a high quality inpatient rehab' service within Warwickshire.
To provide some administrative support to the department.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
1. To gain informed consent for treatment in accordance with Trust policy. This will frequently be to patients/carers and relatives who may have diverse or complex emotional, physical and psychological conditions e.g. deafness, dysphasia, depression, chronic pain, etc. and will require use of verbal and non-verbal communication tools.
2. To develop and deliver therapy treatment programmes using guidelines set by qualified therapists. E.g. patient education, exercise programmes, or classes.
3. Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if necessary following discussion with qualified therapists.
4. Maintain accurate documentation both written and electronic in accordance with professional, legal and Trust guidelines.
5. To hold responsibility for own caseload within a defined area of the service and work without direct supervision.
6. To maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment and equipment both in Trust's premises or clients home, having due respect for Health and Safety.
7. To use and apply clinical knowledge and experience to assess and manage clinical risk within the limits of own scope of practice.
8. To work within infection control guidelines to ensure that therapy/treatment/care does not constitute a risk of infection either to the healthcare professional to the client or to any persons visiting/working in Trust premises.
9. Support other therapy assistants as required.
10. To collect clinical data relevant to the service, as required.
11. To achieve and maintain necessary competencies required to fulfil the role.
Communication
1. To communicate effectively with patients, carers and relatives on an individual or group basis to maximise rehabilitation potential through verbal and non-verbal methods. This may require explanation, instruction, persuasion, motivation, negotiation and reassurance.
2. To be committed to a team approach in order to provide continuity and efficiency of service provision.
3. To liaise with multidisciplinary team/colleagues/medical nursing staff as required.
4. Take formal handover from wards in the absence of the therapists.
Other
1. To order general stores articles and equipment required by the department and maintain adequate stocks of such equipment, liaising with manager for authorisation.
2. To carry out administrative duties as required, working collaboratively with clerical staff i.e. data input, typing, filing, provide reception cover etc.
3. To attend any meetings as designated by senior therapists.
4. To identify opportunities to improve the inpatient rehab service in order to provide the best patient care within the available resources.
5. To contribute to the out of hours service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards.
* GCSE (or equivalent) pass in English and Maths.
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio - including certificates from relevant courses or training.
Experience
* Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting AND/OR working with people with a variety of physical conditions AND/OR working as a therapy assistant.
* Experience of working as part of a team.
* Previous experience of working in NHS hospital or community setting.
Skills
* Able to present information, written and orally in an accurate clear and logical manner.
* Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate.
* Ability to comprehend and work within the trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety and meet the differing needs of the patients.
* Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes.
* Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers.
* Ability to problem solve.
* Excellent command of the English language.
* Good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

* Passes Occupational Health clearance and police checks.
