Lawford Surgery is looking for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role to cover both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role is offered on a part-time basis for approximately 28 hours per week Main duties of the role: Carry out base-line observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, recording findings accurately. Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines. Ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session. Update patient health records. Ensure that medical supplies are in stock. Act as a chaperone where required. Assist GP during the performance of minor operations. New patient health checks. About the Candidate The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such we are looking for applications from those with previous primary care experience. All applicants should have the following - these are essential requirements to be considered for the role: Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC. Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent. Experience of working within a GP practice. Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy. Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills. Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues. Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong organisational and time management skills. About Us Lawford Surgery is based in Manningtree, Essex. We are a semi-rural practice with approximately 4,700 patients. The successful candidate will join our nursing team and be supported by our principal GP, salaried GP and 2 regular locum GPs along with PCN clinical staff including a paramedic, clinical pharmacist and physiotherapist.
