Site Lead Blood Transfusion in Blood Sciences
Responsible for the delivery of the Transfusion service to Frimley Park Hospital and associated community hospitals, private hospitals and hospices.
The post holder will liaise with the Consultants in relation to the clinical aspects of the work and fellow Site Lead BMS's of Blood Sciences on departmental issues. They will be responsible to the Network Lead BMS with respect to the technical aspects of the job and accountable to the Specialty Lead BT Consultant for provision of the service.
Main duties of the job
The Site Lead BT BMS will be the scientific, technical and managerial lead for the Department of Blood Transfusion.
The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating a quality, efficient and timely Blood Transfusion service as requested by the service users, ensuring departmental protocols, policies and Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to and updated to comply with regulatory and accreditation requirements including UKAS and conform to ISO 15189:2022 (where applicable).
Ensure KPI targets are reviewed and adhered to such as TAT and consistency of results.
Maintain discipline and deal with grievance issues; counsel or interview as appropriate.
Participate in the selection and recruitment of new staff.
Take a leading role in the Patient Blood Management Committee, Blood Management Team and Hospital Transfusion Committee where appropriate. Participate in the Regional Transfusion Committee.
Apply technical and scientific judgement in the selection and procurement of supplies and materials.
Ensure compliance of the department and staff with Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Practice Guidelines and compliance with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations and associated codes of practice issued by the Medicines Healthcare Regulatory Agency.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements including UKAS ISO 15189:2022.
Investigation of incidents and complaints relating to Transfusion.

Professional
* HCPC registration. MSc, FIBMS or at least 8 years experience in a senior role in a Blood Transfusion laboratory. Specialist BT qualification.
* In depth knowledge of MHRA and (UKAS)/ISO 15189 standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to cope with a wide range of complex issues, prioritising effectively when dealing with competing demands.
* Problem solving skills, including lateral thinking and ability to find creative solutions. Negotiating and influencing skills. Able to use leadership and management skills to encourage involvement and belief in the model of a Blood Sciences Department.
* Commitment to change management to develop more innovative ways of working to improve service delivery including lean and process mapping.
Additional Qualifications
* Hold the necessary mandatory professional registration and qualifications.
* Developed analytical skills - able to interpret data and analyse trends. Advanced IT skills including spreadsheets and databases. Problem solving skills, including lateral thinking and ability to find creative solutions.
* Production of written reports and papers to a high standard. Commitment to change management to develop more innovative ways of working to improve service delivery including lean and process mapping.
* Knowledge of business planning processes and preparation of business cases and option appraisals.
