Personal Care Teaching Assistant (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Support)
Dunbar Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a Secondary school supporting pupils with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children who need tailored, one-to-one support.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide personalised care and support to pupils with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. ensuring their educational and emotional needs are met.
Assist with moving and handling, including using hoists and other equipment, to support pupils with physical disabilities in accordance with health and safety regulations.
Support pupils with all aspects of personal care, ensuring that dignity and respect are maintained at all times.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and care plans for each child.
Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment where pupils feel valued and supported.
Support the emotional and social development of pupils, helping them to engage with peers and participate in activities.
Assist in monitoring pupil progress and communicating effectively with the teaching team to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Carry out any additional duties that may arise in line with supporting the pupils' holistic development.Essential Requirements:
A care background is essential due to the need for experience in moving and handling, hoisting, and personal care.
Moving and Handling training and Hoisting training are required.
An Enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to apply for one.
A compassionate, patient, and understanding nature, with the ability to work calmly under pressure.Desirable but Not Essential:
Previous experience working with children or young adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with complex physical needs and learning disabilities.
Experience supporting individuals with communication difficulties, such as using alternative communication methods like Makaton, PECs, or assistive technology.
