Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Degree in Psychology (upper second class or above) or equivalent
* Eligible for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society.
Desirable criteria
* Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
Experience
Essential criteria
* Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to use supervision appropriately.
* High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
* Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance
* High standard of report writing
* Excellent empathy and listening skills
Analytical and Judgement skills
Essential criteria
* Ability to correctly administer, score and interpret psychometric tests
* Ability to work with autonomy whilst recognising and working within own level of competence.
* An ability to apply psychological knowledge and theory to early development/physical health contexts/trauma
* Ability to assess and identify risk, understand risk management and seek appropriate supervision
Planning and organisation skills
Essential criteria
* Ability to be highly organised and prioritise workload.
* Have flexibility in approach to work, in order to adapt to changing service needs
* Have a proactive approach to managing difficulties that may arise in the role.
* Ability to prepare for supervision sessions and meetings
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist, or in a similar/equivalent role which involves direct clinical contact with people with psychological difficulties
* Experience of assisting with psychological assessments and psychological interventions
* Experience using databases or data analysis
* Experience of working as part of a team
Desirable criteria
* Experience of working with patients with physical health problems
* Experience of conducting clinical audits and/or research
* Experience of delivering group interventions
* Experience of working with children or families

Physical skills
Essential criteria
* Ability to concentrate for prolonged periods and be capable of sitting in a constrained position
* Ability to attend work punctually and reliably
* Ability to travel between sites within a working day when needed
Desirable criteria
* Ability to lift and carry heavy test materials (over 10kg)
Other requirements specific to the role
Essential criteria
* Competence in IT systems including Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
* Up to date immunisations (including TB and HepB)
Desirable criteria
* An interest in developing a career as a practitioner psychologist
