Balfour Beatty VINCI is working with a range of organisations to design and build a 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 - Britain’s new high-speed railway. Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up to Manchester. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us - we’re at peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels, and viaducts. Plus, you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this exciting section of HS2 across the region.
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Temporary Works Design Lead (TWDL) within the Design and Engineer Team. This role will be based on site in BBV A46 Compound, Ashow Road, Stoneleigh.
The TWDL is a supporting role intended to assist the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) and Principal Temporary Works Coordinator (PCTWC) to manage the design and assurance process. Responsibility for managing the design and assurance remains with the TWC’s. When appointed, the duties of TWDL should be set out in the Temporary Works management plan. The Temporary Works Design Team Lead will have relevant competence in temporary works design and temporary works management, according to the requirements of their Sublot. The competencies will be assessed from the relevant parts of the PC TWC and TWD competencies.
Experience Required:
1. TW design experience ideally working towards professional membership of the ICE or similar organisation.
2. Ability to design temporary works using European design codes and PAS 8812 together with a working knowledge of BS5975: 2019.
3. Good communication skills.
4. Depth of understanding of the construction environment for safe and buildable designs.
5. Ability to manage conflicting demands, assess priorities, proactively plan the works to ensure timely delivery of project requirements.
6. Disciplined approach to quality assurance and documentation. Attention to detail, ensuring legal compliance and satisfying project requirements.
7. Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations, in particular, the Designer role.

About Balfour Beatty VINCI:
Balfour Beatty VINCI is a long-established joint venture between two powerhouses for the delivery of critical infrastructure across rail, transport, and other iconic projects in the UK and beyond. We started working together over 30 years ago to deliver the Channel Tunnel, as members of the TransManche Link consortium. In the Midlands, it is Balfour Beatty VINCI’s role to design and build the route, ready for tracks and signalling to be installed. Our work with HS2 Balfour Beatty VINCI has been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and then on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

1. 9.3km of viaducts
2. 62 overbridges
3. 35 cuttings
4. 56 culverts
5. 62 embankments
6. 2 twin bore tunnels and 2 cut and cover tunnels
7. 28 underbridges and 11 underpasses
