Postdoctoral Researcher in Machine Learning for Multimodal Data Processing in the Maritime Domain Location: Southampton Solent University About SEAGUARD: Funded by Horizon Europe, SEAGUARD aims to strengthen cross-border maritime surveillance, enhancing border security and management across Europe. The project focuses on the design, development, and deployment of a cutting-edge surveillance system that integrates advanced sensing technologies with AI, big data, and high-performance computing. With a budget of 5 million euros and in partnership with 14 organizations across Europe, SEAGUARD will employ unmanned vehicles (UAVs, surface, and underwater), fixed buoys, and smart submarine cables to detect and prevent illegal activities, including border crossings, smuggling, illegal fishing, and terrorism. Key Responsibilities: Conduct innovative research toward the SEAGUARD project goals, exploring the latest in AI and high-performance computing. Plan, organize, and execute research activities while presenting key findings. Collaborate with our team in the maritime simulation and computer science labs, as well as with project partners across Europe.
