Job Purpose
The purpose of the Trainee Gas Supervisor role is to gain experience and knowledge for all aspects of supervising diving operations. They will remain under the direct supervision of the Gas Supervisor in dive control whilst “on the panel” and “running the dive”, and the Gas Supervisor will retain legal responsibility for the divers' safety for the duration of the dive.
The primary objectives for the Trainee Gas Supervisor are to get continuous quality hands-on involvement for all aspects of the dive including planning, SDC checks, transfer of the divers, launch and recovery of the SDC and divers lockouts. Each dive should be assessed to ensure the appropriate level of supervision so as not to introduce any additional risks to the divers for safety-critical tasks.
Main Accountabilities
* Be fully familiar with all relevant aspects of the dive system, including dive controls panels, SDC launch and recovery procedures, SDC internal and external layout, SDC standard and emergency operational procedures.
* Be fully aware of the procedures governing associated operations such as remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations.
* Assist in the briefing of the diver(s) prior to each dive and assist the project engineers in the preparation of dive plans.
* Keep an accurate personal gas supervisor’s logbook.
* As required, liaise with the bridge and deck crew during diving and deck operations.
* Proactive involvement with the development and production of work/dive plans.
* Assist in collating and organizing relevant information for the team to undertake the task in hand.
* Assist in ensuring all relevant diving plant and equipment is compliant with assurance and regulatory requirements.
* Report any emergency situations and assist with any critical situations.
* Become fully conversant with the procedures to be used in the event of an emergency.
* Participate in safety drills and meetings as required.
On completion of the project, they shall:
* Assist in project demobilization as required.
* Attend and actively participate in project debriefing session(s).
Procedural:
* Have an appreciation of relevant industry legislative requirements and guidance notes and ensure the team’s compliance.
* Have a good knowledge of company Diving Safety Management System.
* Have a good knowledge of Company safety systems and ensure the team’s compliance, in particular:
* - Permit to Work (PTW) system.
* - Relevant operational and safety procedures.
* - Vessel and dive system familiarization.
* - Management of Change (MoC).
* - Risk identification and assessments.
* Be familiar with the work scope and requirements for compliance with the Company safety standards.
* Be familiar with any special procedures and/or equipment to be used for the work.
Qualifications (professional, academic, technical):
* Relevant AODC/IMCA Divers certificate (HSE Part I or II or equivalent) commensurate with the type of diving being undertaken.
* Valid offshore BOSIET/FOET.
* Valid Oil and Gas UK medical certificate.
* Current first aid or advanced First Aid certificate/DMT.
* Valid and in date (3 years) IMCA approved Trainee Bell Diving Supervisor preparatory training course.
Typical background and experience required:
* Good working knowledge of written and oral English language.
* Good understanding and working knowledge of safe operations at the diving worksite.
* Good understanding and working knowledge of diving best practice, legislation and guidance.
* Good understanding and working knowledge of Company Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHS&E) integrated safety management systems.
* Good understanding and working knowledge of the various vessel dynamic positioning systems.
Personnel management and communication:
* Assist with decision making and leadership during the shift.
* Assist in ensuring the team maintain the safety and security of the working environment.
* Assist in planning and maintaining effective communications with the team.
* Participate and periodically take the lead in shift handover including any safe work procedure and explanation of current working conditions.
* Maintain good inter-personal and communication skills with colleagues and supervisors.
* Assist in mobilization, training, and familiarization of personnel as required.
* Liaise with all members of the shift and the other departments in order to achieve a smooth start to the project.
* Liaise with supervisor and report any operational concerns immediately.
* Liaise with any sub-contractors, vessel crew and project engineers as appropriate.
