University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust (UHBWFT) seeks applicants for 12-month Clinical Fellow posts, in Critical Care, at SHO / ST1-2 level to commence August 2025 to meet the increasing demand for critical care services within the trust.
This post comprises six months of Intensive Care Medicine and six months of Emergency Medicine. The total duration of the appointment is 12 months.
Main duties of the job
The post would be suitable for trainees who have completed Foundation or core specialty training and will offer the successful applicant an opportunity to develop their skills in Intensive Care Medicine. You will join a highly motivated team of medical, nursing and allied health professionals and work in a busy, thriving, well supported unit. The full shift rota comprises shifts across the General Intensive Care Unit (GICU), the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and Critical Care Outreach. You will gain experience in a number of different organ support modes including respiratory, cardiovascular and renal support. The successful candidate could expect to gain skills in airway management, invasive monitoring and ultrasound.
This post participates in a 24-hour full shift, fully compliant, SHO / ST1-2 rota and benefits from seven day a week consultant cover up until midnight and 24 hour registrar grade support. This post would be ideal for any candidate planning a career in Emergency Medicine, or any acute specialty, and is also suitable for doctors wishing to pursue a career in General Practice.

Full GMC registration, with a licence to practice, is required at the time of application. At least 6 months UK NHS Clinical practice (not observing or attachment) is mandatory.

* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following; • A) that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or
* B) have the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6.

Qualifications and Training
* At least 6 months previous NHS clinical experience (not observing)
* Full registration with the GMC, with a licence to practice, at time of application
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards
* Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice)
* Fitness to practice is up to date and fit to practice safely
* No unexplained career gaps
* At least 24 months’ experience (at FY1/2 level) in appropriate posts
* Advanced Life Support Provider
* MRCP / MRCS (Part 1) or equivalent
* Other membership, fellowship or diplomas
