Role Overview
The North Wales Crusaders Rugby League Team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Head of Medical to lead and manage the club’s medical operations. This part-time role involves overseeing the medical team, ensuring compliance with Rugby Football League (RFL) medical standards, and delivering elite-level care to players.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend and provide medical support at two training sessions per week (Wednesday and Friday evenings) and weekend matches (Saturday or Sunday).
* Lead and manage the club’s medical team, including mentoring and overseeing other medical staff members.
* Maintain medical supplies by conducting regular stock checks and ensuring all equipment is up-to-date and operational.
* Ensure all medical staff training and certifications are current and in line with RFL requirements.
* Develop, implement, and maintain the Emergency Medical Action Plan (EMAP) for both training sessions and matches.
* Ensure that all medical standards are set and adhered to in line with RFL policies and procedures.
Requirements
* Qualifications:
* Valid ATMMiF (Advanced Trauma Management in Football) and/or IMMOFP (Immediate Medical Management on the Field of Play) certifications.
* Full insurance and active membership with a relevant professional board.
* A Physiotherapy degree.
* A master’s degree in a related area (desirable).
* Experience:
* A minimum of 3-4 years of experience working in elite sports, with a preference for rugby league.
* Demonstrated experience in leadership or managing a medical team.
Skills and Attributes
* Strong organisational skills to manage medical logistics, stock, and compliance.
* Excellent communication and leadership abilities to manage and support a multidisciplinary medical team.
* In-depth knowledge of sports injury prevention, rehabilitation, and acute pitch-side care.
* Commitment to maintaining the highest medical standards for player welfare.
Key Responsibilities – Working with the Men’s First Team (League 1)
As the Head of Medical, your primary focus will be on supporting the Men’s First Team in League 1, ensuring their health, safety, and performance are prioritised.
Key responsibilities include:
Medical Support
* Provide pitch-side medical care for training sessions (Wednesday and Friday evenings) and matches (weekends – Saturday or Sunday).
* Manage injury assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation programs to support player recovery and performance.
* Work closely with coaching staff to monitor player fitness and availability, providing regular updates on injury statuses.
Leadership and Team Management
* Lead and coordinate the medical team, ensuring all members are aligned with the club’s objectives.
* Mentor junior medical staff, offering guidance on best practices and professional development.
* Delegate responsibilities effectively to ensure seamless medical coverage during training and matches.
Compliance and Standards
* Ensure all medical operations comply with RFL regulations and player welfare standards.
* Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all first-team players.
* Develop and implement an Emergency Medical Action Plan (EMAP) specific to the Men’s First Team for training sessions and matches.
Equipment and Logistics
* Conduct regular stock checks to ensure medical supplies and equipment are adequately maintained, in-date, and fit for purpose.
* Oversee the maintenance and inventory of all medical equipment used by the club.
Collaboration and Integration
* Work closely with strength and conditioning coaches to create injury prevention strategies tailored to the needs of the team.
* Liaise with external medical professionals as required for specialist assessments or treatments.
* Attend team meetings and provide input on player welfare and performance.
Training and Education
* Ensure all medical staff are fully trained and certified according to RFL requirements.
* Deliver education sessions for players and staff on topics such as injury prevention, hydration, and recovery strategies.
