Security Officer (Full Time) Purpose: Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Security Officer to support security efforts and operations at our Headquarters in Norfolk, VA. Job Description: Drafting daily reports outlining activities and any disturbances. Verify identification badges of employees, visitors, subcontractors, and temporary employees. Check tool bags and vehicles that are entering and exiting the shipyard and its premises. Log all visitors. Confirm property passes when material is removed from the facility. Escort terminated employees, or any person requiring removal, from the facility. Investigate and report suspicious activity. Push open and close parking lot gates, approximately weighing 100 lbs. Conduct thorough patrol, both foot and vehicular for entire shipyard, vessels, dry docks, buildings, piers, mobile offices, off-site properties and trade shops. In case of fire and other emergencies, contact fire departments or other appropriate service providers. Check lights, alarm systems, windows, doors, and gates for proper functioning. Provide First Aid/CPR in the absence of Safety Personnel and maintain qualifications for First Responder. Works in conjunction with the Captain / Corporal. Qualifications: Must have at least 2 years patrolling experience and an Active DCJS Armed Certification or willing to obtain/renew. Must have their own weapon. Must be available to work all shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd). Must have reliable transportation, maintain a valid Driver’s License with a record that allows the operation of company vehicles. Must have a stable employment history. Must be capable of passing a physical fitness test, health exam, background investigation and periodic drug test. Must be qualified as a First Responder/CPR. Must be able to act upon instruction. Must be able to climb metal stairs, inclined gangways, and vertical ladders up to 40 feet in case of an emergency. Must wear personal protective equipment hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes and, when necessary, a respirator. Must be able to work independently to complete responsibilities. Must have regular, reliable attendance. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer VADCJS Armed Security Officer Arrest Authority. Travel Requirements: Minimal Travel; 10% or less. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions. Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment. Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts. While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl. Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation Frequent use of respirator.
