Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Respiratory & General Medicine, to provide maternity leave cover for an existing member of the Lung Cancer Team.
A special interest in lung cancer and pleural disease is required to work alongside two other senior doctors as part of a sub-specialist team.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £116,600 per annum.
Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join 12 other Respiratory Physicians within Cardiff and Vale UHB (8 respiratory / general medicine and 4 cystic fibrosis) and 37 Consultant Physicians in the Medicine Directorate which is located across two acute sites - University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough.
The post holder will be expected to join with the rest of the respiratory department by providing for the secondary needs of patients admitted with respiratory problems to both acute sites.
There is a commitment to the acute medical emergency admissions rota at UHW - currently 1 in 17 x 24 hours - and will impact on the emergency medical admissions by contributing to the acute assessment and management of medical emergencies. The principles of ward-based medicine operate within the Health Board. Patients classified as suffering respiratory illness on admission to UHW are defined respiratory. Depending on bed availability these patients are transferred to the respiratory ward (B7) from the medical admissions unit.
