Contract Role Opportunity: Principal Mechanical Engineer - Gearbox Systems
Location: Huddersfield
We are seeking 10 skilled Principal Mechanical Engineers to join our engineering team within maritime on a contract basis. Working closely with the Technical Authority, you will play a key role in gearbox design projects and related product engineering activities.
SC clearance required to work full time onsite.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design: Develop and detail high-integrity gearboxes, components, and assemblies.
Re-engineering: Modify existing designs for new applications.
Test Equipment & Procedures: Design and develop test rigs and procedures for gearboxes.
Standards Compliance: Interpret customer specifications and design standards, including geometric tolerancing.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with teams in adjacent disciplines like Analysis, Development, Production Engineering, and Supply Chain.
Documentation & Reports: Prepare manuals, proposals, installation guides, maintenance instructions, BOMs, and technical documentation.
Technical Support: Participate in DFMEA, PFMEA, and continuous improvement activities.
Skills & Experience Required:
Core Design Skills: Expertise in mechanical design, materials selection, gear rating, shaft and bearing analysis, rotor dynamics, lubrication systems, and drive system components.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of materials, processing techniques, and modern manufacturing methods.
Standards Compliance: Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO, AGMA, DIN, and DNV.
Software Proficiency: Expert-level 2D/3D CAD skills (Solid Edge preferred) and SAP awareness.

Qualifications:
Minimum: Diploma with relevant experience
