Environmental Coordinator - Construction

Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 (dependent on experience)
Fairmead is working with a highly regarded construction logistics and site solutions company to appoint an Environmental Coordinator to drive environmental performance across major projects in Central London. This is a critical role for an experienced professional with a strong technical background in environmental compliance, sustainability, and regulatory frameworks within the built environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, site teams, and external regulatory bodies to deliver innovative environmental solutions that align with the company's sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Take ownership of environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and waste management strategies across multiple high-profile construction sites.
* Ensure full compliance with UK environmental legislation, local authority requirements, and client sustainability objectives.
* Develop, implement, and maintain Environmental Management Systems (EMS), site-specific Environmental Management Plans, and Sustainability Action Plans.
* Conduct site audits, impact assessments, and risk evaluations, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring proactive mitigation strategies are in place.
* Drive the company's commitment to ISO 14001 accreditation, ensuring policies and procedures remain aligned with industry standards.
* Oversee sustainable procurement and material reuse strategies, working closely with supply chain partners to reduce environmental impact.
* Engage and educate project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and wider stakeholders on best practices in sustainability, environmental risk management, and compliance.
* Liaise with regulatory bodies, local authorities, and environmental agencies to ensure smooth project approvals and adherence to planning conditions.
* Produce detailed environmental reports, performance metrics, and compliance documentation, ensuring accurate and timely submissions to clients and governing bodies.
* Support carbon footprint reduction strategies, assisting the business in achieving net-zero and broader environmental goals.
Skills & Experience Required
* A degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
* Extensive experience in an environmental role within the construction, infrastructure, or logistics sector.
* Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, environmental permitting, UK legislation, and environmental impact assessments.
* Proven track record in delivering environmental audits, compliance assessments, and sustainability frameworks within a construction setting.
* Ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels, working collaboratively with site teams, senior leadership, and external bodies.
* Highly analytical with excellent report writing and data analysis skills to track environmental performance.
* Passionate about driving environmental innovation and embedding sustainability within large-scale construction projects.
