Medical Engineering Team Leader, band 7
The Medical Engineering department provides a wide range of technical, scientific, procurement and management services to NCIC, serving most specialties and departments across Cumbria. The core services are based at the two Acute Hospitals, the Cumberland Infirmary & West Cumberland Hospitals with some specialist satellite Facilities around Cumbria.
The Post holder is responsible for the day-to-day management of an in-house team (Approximately 6 staff) of Technicians based at the West Cumberland Hospital and will provide support, assistance and cover for the Head of Medical Engineering to help manage the team at CIC when required.
Main duties of the job
1. Under the direction of the Head of Medical Engineering, the post holder will liaise with organisational stakeholders - to discuss service developments; equipment issues relating to life cycling, whole life costs; and maintenance and repair processes.
2. Communicate verbally, in reports and briefing papers to inform and persuade.
3. Achieve objectives through consultation and negotiation around matters involving contentious and emotive issues.
4. Interpret complex plans and aspirations of the Trust and communicate these to staff.
5. Provide advice and support on all medical equipment related issues to all grades and professions of staff.
6. Represent the organisation with external agencies.
7. Assist the Head of Medical Engineering to develop links and networks with national forums and best practice groups.
8. Provide verbal and written reports and action plans to the Head of Medical Engineering and in response to requests from others.
9. Undertake department manpower supervision and operational organisational duties as directed by and in support of the Head of Medical Engineering.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Minimum HNC in Electronic Engineering.
* Degree in Engineering related subject.
Experience and knowledge
* Knowledge and experience equivalent to degree/masters level.
* Significant experience and professional specialist knowledge of complex multi-faceted equipment.
* Additional specialist knowledge equivalent to Masters Level of Anaesthetics, Patient Ventilation, Physiological Monitoring and Pathology equipment gained through experience and specialist equipment manufacturers certificated training courses.
* Experience of managing staff in an engineering environment.
* Demonstrable ability to lead and motivate a team.
* A recognised EITB or CITB apprenticeship with at least 5 years relevant experience of working within an Estates Medical Engineering Healthcare environment having demonstrated total commitment to versatility and flexibility.
Skills and abilities
* Ability to diagnose and rectify faults on complex medical equipment.
* Provides and receives complex information through oral, written and electronic communication with equipment manufacturers and other healthcare professionals.
* Make judgments involving complex facts or situations.
* Ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities and programmes.
* Ability to manage a team of technicians and apprentices ensuring that all training needs are provided for and that all modules are achieved.
* Understanding of quality and assurance in an engineering, scientific or work-based context.
* Ability to analyse information comprising workshop data and clinical details with ability to formulate appropriate advice and judgements.
