Job Description:
We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.
Our client currently is one of the largest university hospitals trusts in the country, joining a department that provides a general Respiratory service as well as a number of specialities including thoracoscopy, vasculitis, severe asthma, interstitial and pleural disease. We would welcome applicants with experience in these fields but will also be happy to consider other specialities in order to meet the needs of our patients. The successful appointee would be joining an established team of 12 consultants and a team of highly trained nurses specialising in COPD, severe asthma and lung cancer. The right applicant will be joining us at an exciting time and would gain invaluable experience within a university teaching hospital.
The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties within the trust. These will include: providing inpatient care on the Respiratory Unit by taking part in an on ward / off ward rotation and respiratory on call. The appointee will also contribute to general respiratory activity, the bronchoscopy/thoracoscopy rota and will be encouraged to develop subspecialty interests and contribute to research and education. The role will also include delivering educational activities, raising the departmental research profile and actively driving further innovation.
The appointee will also be expected to participate in ongoing research trials and there will be opportunities to become principal investigator for upcoming clinical trials. The appointee may also have the opportunity to develop an EBUS & interventional bronchoscopy service if desired. This list is by no means exhaustive, and other subspecialist interests will also be considered. We will support and encourage sub-specialty interest.
