Job summary The Department of Infectious is seeking to appoint and Infectious Diseases Specialist Nurse to join Complex Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (COpAT) team. You would be joining a thriving team of Medics, Community Practitioners, Pharmacists and Nurses. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the UHB COpAT team to coordinate and seek referrals to the service within University Hospitals Birmingham and ensure robust clinical managemtn of these patients throughout their treatment in conjuction with the relevant community team. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, have the ability to work with all disciplines within secondary and primary care. Be confident and willing to undertake self-directed and supervised learning and be able to transfer existing skills into the team. You will be expected to work across all Trust hospital sites and undertake some community visits as necessary. This post is advertised as Band6/7 dependant on experience. If appointed at Band 6 you will undertake a period of 6-12 months training and successfully complete a competency programme to ensure authonomous practice is achieved. Main duties of the job Provide treatment and advice within your scope of practice, working autonomously when safe to do so. Follow policies and guidelines in various settings (acute, primary, community). Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring evidence-based, compassionate care. Safely administer medicines, including intravenous medications and ensure proper documentation. Be willing to successfully complete the non-medical prescribing course (if not already done so) Offer safe seamless care, from referral to discharge, making informed, patient-centred decisions. Troubleshoot concerns raised by ward/community teams ensuring patient safety Advocate for patients, address their educational and communication needs, and ensure a safe discharge process. Report safeguarding concerns as per trust policy Participate in audits and deliver teaching sessions to improve care quality.
