The Specialist Behaviour Team (SBT) is part of Adult Learning Disability Services within Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) and provides enhanced Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) input to service users with a Learning Disability and significant behaviours/risks that challenge. The SBT operates a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Model and supports service users across the SBUHB learning disability footprint, including Cardiff and Vale, RCT and Merthyr, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot, and Swansea. The team has two bases, one in Bridgend and one in Swansea, with members of the team split across the two bases. This current post would be based in Swansea, but post holders may be required to work across the health board footprint.
The SBT provides in-depth support to services in PBS approaches. Caseloads are from community-based care providers, and therefore travelling to these settings across south Wales is required. The role is largely Monday to Friday, 9-5, but may include evening, night, and weekend working as required. The SBT also supports NHS learning disability inpatient services, including acute admission settings and continuing care inpatient beds.
The Assistant Behaviour Specialist role involves supporting behaviour specialist case leads on clinical work, such as undertaking direct observations, providing hands-on support to challenging service users, undertaking outcome measures, delivering training, and contributing to research and other project work within the team. The role offers the opportunity to become an ABMU PBM (physical intervention approach) trainer. The post is part of a friendly and supportive team, and the applicant will be well supported with training and supervision opportunities and regular PADRs. The team welcomes individuals who meet the minimum qualification criteria and are keen to work hands-on with service users who present with complex and challenging needs and further develop their skills in PBS. Candidates should also have good IT and written skills and demonstrate significant experience of working hands-on with individuals who present with behaviours that challenge services.
