Description We are looking for an experienced senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to lead a team of 6 Health and Safety Managers and deliver a professional Health and Safety function to the Warehouse, Distribution and Transport functions across Next. This is a fantastic opportunity to drive a culture where health and safety is at the forefront of what we do, develop excellent relationships with senior stakeholders and directors within our warehouses and distribution centres across the estate and to ensure that this is rolled out through the line of business coupled with ensuring our health and safety system is legal and fit for purpose. You will need to have significant health and safety management experience and demonstrate strong leadership skills along with people management experience, excellent communication and analytical skills. This role is based at our Elmsall site in Yorkshire. Salary is from £70,000 but we are keen to receive applications from candidates who meet the criteria for this role and understand individual salary expectations. About the role: INSPIRING OTHERS THROUGH “FELT LEADERSHIP” ● Has day to day responsibility for supporting and inspiring a motivated health, safety and wellbeing team in NDL; developing and making best use of dotted line reports where available ● Drive the operational NDL teams to meet their business and statutory health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) requirements ● Recognises achievements, gives praise as well as constructive feedback to improve performance of both their team members and those they influence ● Trusts individuals, treats them with respect and considers their views ● Achieves deadlines by planning, using the correct people / resources, and re-planning when needed ● Takes responsibility for theirs and their teams training and development ● Drives a culture which ensures operational managers take responsibility for meeting all legal and compliance requirements ● Drives a culture which ensures operational managers implements company policies and checks they are followed by their team ● Is visible and available and makes the best use of theirs and their teams time using the best tools for the job ● Supports and deputises for the Group Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager DRIVES HEALTH, SAFETY and WELLBEING PERFORMANCE THROUGH OTHERS (the “safety is a line management responsibility” concept). ● Uses systems and reports to identify priority action and to help others drive HSW performance through the line and across all parts of the business ● Drives a culture which ensures site managers and their managers plan and review their site(s) HSW processes and maximise results ● Leads by example and supports their team to provide all stakeholders with a speedy, efficient and professional service ● Empowers their team and the operational line management team to use HSW reports to challenge, make decisions and drive HSW performance ● Achieves high HSW standards through the operational line management team and displays and keeps pace with what competitors are doing ● Identifies NDL Health, Safety and Wellbeing priorities and where appropriate feeds them through in to the Divisional and Company Safety Meetings and Objectives ● Engages effectively with senior managers and / or Directors where issues of concern are not being addressed in a timely fashion.
