Join our dynamic stroke team in a charming seaside town of Great Yarmouth. We are seeking a Consultant Stroke Physician to play a key role in delivering hyperacute and acute stroke care at James Paget University Hospital.
Our stroke unit consists of 5 hyperacute HASU beds and 28 acute/rehabilitation beds, admitting approximately 500 patients per year. The successful candidate will be involved in every stage of the stroke pathway, including hyperacute care, acute management, rehabilitation, TIA clinics, and stroke follow-up clinics.

Main duties of the job
Responsibilities:
* Provide consultant-led care to inpatients admitted to the stroke team, and supervise junior doctors involved in the care of these patients.
* Together with the other stroke consultants, provide stroke thrombolysis and thrombectomy assessments during working hours, with plans for future expansion into a joint out-of-hours stroke consultant rota across three hospital trusts within the Integrated Care Board (ICB).
* Provide 1 in 6 weekend hyperacute stroke specialist ward rounds on a rota basis on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The Trust provides comprehensive acute care for the population of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the South Waveney area and for many visitors to the area. This acute care is provided from the James Paget University Hospital site at Gorleston and is supported by other community services at the Newberry Centre, Kirkley Rise North Lowestoft and outreach clinics.
Job responsibilities
Prospective candidates should be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT, or be listed on or eligible for the UK Specialist Register at the date of interview.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* MBBS or Basic Medical Degree
* MRCP or equivalent
* Hold a certificate or be within 6 months of completion of training or be on or eligible for the UK Specialist Register at the date of interview
* Full GMC registration
* MD/PhD
* Possession of ALS
Experience & Knowledge
* Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within stroke medicine.
* A special interest to complement those within the department.
Academic Achievements
* An understanding of the principles of research.
* Knowledge of using evidence-based medicine to support decision making.
* Experience of conducting clinical audit.
* Published research.
Key Skills
* Ability and enthusiasm for teaching health care professionals and medical students in a Stroke Medicine setting.
* Capable of organising and prioritising work effectively.
* Motivation and ability to plan and develop the service.
* Experience in teaching medical students and allied health professionals.
