The role attracts 10 PA's per week with the job plan offering 8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA. The current consultant team are working a 1 in 7 on call rota and this is due to move to a 1 in 8 on call rota commitment upon hiring to this vacant post. The frequency of on calls falls under category B, whilst busy during the day it tends to be quiet overnight and at weekends. Our Department provides Haematology inpatient and outpatient services, as well as having Radiotherapy facilities within the Beacon Centre. The Beacon Centre (Taunton) provides cancer and Haematology care to the population of Somerset of approximately 560,000. Chemotherapy is given in an outpatient setting at St Margaret's Hospice in Yeovil and The Beacon Centre in Taunton. Additional chemotherapy, transfusion and venesection services are provided at satellite units, including Wellington, Bridgwater, Williton and Shepton Mallet. Teaching and Library facilities are based in the Somerset Academy. Haematology Consultant staff participate in teaching rotas for medical students and junior staff as well as the weekly hospital Grand Round teaching. Medical students from both Bristol and Plymouth Universities receive clinical teaching in Taunton. Haematology laboratory services are provided by Southwest Pathology Services via a hub and spoke arrangement with the main laboratory off site in the centre of Taunton and smaller essential service laboratories (ESL) at Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital. All 3 laboratories are UKAS accredited. All the standard tests in Haematology, Coagulation, Biochemistry and transfusion are provided with ESLs providing a 24/7 service to both acute hospitals. Research is encouraged, particularly when this is appropriate to the professional development of the successful candidate and to the service development of the department. You will be expected to participate in clinical governance activities to assist the Trust to provide high quality services. You will be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department. They will be required to undertake training on the various IT systems related to the role. You have the responsibility for the timely and accurate creation, maintenance and storage of records in accordance with Trust policy, including email documents and with regard to the Data Protection Act, The Freedom of Information Act and any other relevant statutory requirements. You will be expected to complete mandatory Trust training. We welcome applications from experienced Specialty Doctors who wish to complete CESR to seek GMC specialist registration. The salary for Specialty Doctors will differ to that of the salary advertised and specified in the attached job description.
