An exciting 12 month secondment opportunity has arisen on ward J42 for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the team and be involved in developing Elective and Acute urology Services. J42 is an Elective Acute Surgical ward within the Abdominal Medicine and Surgical Clinical Service Unit.
We need an enthusiastic individual to support the Matron and Senior Nursing Team for Abdominal Medicine and Surgical CSU to ensure expert high-quality care is delivered.
Responsibilities
1. Develop the nursing team and demonstrate strong leadership qualities.
2. Take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area and have budgetary responsibility.
3. Assist in the delivery of care standards and quality indicators to support safe and effective patient care.
4. Act as a clinical resource within the department as necessary.
5. Serve as a positive role model.
6. Exhibit excellent communication skills.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate recent change management implementation, a clear understanding of The Leeds Way, and a sound understanding of workforce management.

Main Duties of the Job
1. Provide leadership to the clinical team.
2. Support and inspire staff to provide efficient, effective, safe, quality care to patients.
3. Deliver a positive patient experience.
4. Promote the building of effective teams and collaboration between teams.
5. Anticipate problems and take preventative or mitigating actions, or have contingency plans available.
6. Work with Matron to lead the development of ward/department nursing practice, reflecting the Clinical Service Unit and Trust business plans.
7. Collaborate with the Matron and/or Head of Nursing to suggest and develop new roles/ways of working.
8. Delegate and empower staff while maintaining overall responsibility and accountability.
9. Line manage the nursing team, including individual and team performance, attendance, management, and workforce planning.
10. Ensure the effective deployment of staff is mapped against the flow of patients to provide safe and effective care.
11. Support and participate in local and trustwide recruitment events.
12. Manage the use of bank and agency staff.
13. Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents, and other significant events.
14. Deliver an effective, safe, quality service within budgetary envelope.
15. Raise and respond to concerns regarding risk, danger, malpractice, or wrongdoing by following the LTHT whistleblowing policy and supporting processes.
16. Deputise for Matron in their absence.

Job Description
The Jobholder will carry 24-hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward/department. They will provide professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward or department philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost-effective use of resources.
