The Assistant to the Prosecutor is primarily responsible for providing administrative support services to the Municipal Prosecutor and the Court Services Division.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Answers inquiries and responds to requests from defendants, agents, counsel and prosecutors.
* Assist with prosecutors’ technological requirements, including managing electronic files and scheduling pre-court resolution meetings, electronic or telephone (in person when permitted).
* Receive and review electronic documents including briefs.
* Prepare files for the Prosecutor.
* Using court dockets provided by Court Services, confirm all briefs have been received before each resolution date and court date.
* Using final court dockets provided by Court Services, follow up with any post-court requirements, schedule appointments, note the file, then file the briefs in the next appearance date.
* Draft correspondence, reports, memos and documents as directed.
* Assess documents for disclosure.
* Prepare, provide, and track disclosure.
* Prepare exhibits for filing with the court.
* Assist prosecution with break-out rooms during Zoom court appearances.
* Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
* Act as backup for Court Services and front counter reception as required.
* Provide backup coverage for the Prosecutor as required.
* Provide excellent and professional customer service.
* Respond to general inquiries on behalf of the County, observe utmost confidentiality concerning discussions, correspondence and other written materials.
* Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to the immediate Supervisor.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Class P1 licence to provide legal services issued by the Law Society of Ontario.
* College diploma in Law, Paralegal, or related field of study.
* 2 years of work-related experience.
* Advanced proficiency in using Microsoft Office software.
* Ability to learn to operate the provincial ICON computer system.
* Ability to learn to operate CAMS (Court Administration Management System).
* Excellent verbal and written skills.
* Requires a high degree of professionalism, empathy, sensitivity, tact and excellent judgment.
* Ability to maintain the decorum of the court and to remain impartial during exchanges with challenging clients.
* Ability to interact with legal professionals and defendants in a professional manner.
* Multi-tasking is mandatory due to the variety and volume of work.
Shift:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week)
Salary Range:
$56,875 – $66,575.60 (based on Perth County’s 2024 salary grid).
