Our international logistics client based in Essex is currently looking to appoint an experienced Customs Clerk to join their team, working Monday to Friday, 9am - 5:30pm with no weekends required!
As Customs Clerk, on a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for producing customs declarations, ensuring all clearance processes (Import and Export) are completed in a compliant and timely manner, and providing professional and effective administration support to the Customs Clearing / Multimodal Team.
Customs Clerk duties include:
* Completing day to day Customs Clearing and entries for all sea and road freight shipments, including EADs & T1s. Creating, managing and maintaining the correct documentation as each case progresses, always maintaining data input accuracy.
* Handling customer enquiries in writing, in person or by phone providing accurate advice and estimates when required.
* Telephone and/or written communication with external organisations e.g. HMRC, Port Authorities, Shipping Lines, Hauliers etc.
* Obtaining necessary Bill of Ladings and correct Tariff Headings and processing payments from customers in line with company policy.
* Calculating Duty / VAT cost for each consignment.
* Processing Import/Export declarations.
* Dealing with general enquiries from importers / exporters, internal and external sources concerning all areas, relating to Customs Procedures, Tariff Classifications, Duty Rates and any other documentation requirements.
* Keeping up to date with changes in regulations, laws and customs procedures.
* Work with different departments in multiple locations to prepare a complete list of Jobs (Shipments requiring customs entries) for the day.
Experience Required:
* Knowledge of CDS and Cargowise software systems essential.
* HMRC - Customs declarations experience, Imports and exports.
* Knowledge of customs declarations will be advantageous; ideally gained the experience within freight forwarding or logistics business.
* 'Attention to detail' is extremely important to ensure the business is compliant and passes HMRC audits, including risk identification and mitigation.
* Excellent communication skills enabling all departments within the company to be up-to-date with customs declarations for the day's shipments.
* Experience of checking and processing all relevant documentation for the shipments.
* Understanding of different customs procedures and the requirements.

In return, the successful Customs Clerk will be offered up to £35k depending on experience.
