Who You Are We are looking for an enthusiastic Finance/Accountancy Officer with a qualification from the Association of Accounting Technicians or equivalent, and knowledge of local government accounting and financial procedures. You should possess excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and be comfortable communicating through both English and Welsh. Strong accountancy and numeracy abilities as well as proficiency in computerised financial systems are required. You will be adept at planning and producing work independently while managing pressure to meet deadlines, alongside creativity in designing systems using spreadsheets and databases. Communication and relationship-building skills with school Headteachers, Governing bodies, and colleagues within the department are vital to the role. You should be able to make sound decisions and recommendations regarding service delivery and resource affordability. What the Job Involves As a Finance/Accountancy Officer within the Corporate Finance (School Support) department, you play a central role in offering financial support services to Headteachers and Governing Bodies. Your responsibilities include assisting the Principal Accountant in delivering financial services per the Service Level Agreement, preparing annual budgets for schools, aiding in account closures, and preparing financial projections. You'll regularly visit schools to provide budgetary advice, resolve administrative issues, and maintain a financial reporting system ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant regulations like VAT and financial codes. You are expected to foster good working relationships, comply with authority policies, and contribute to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable groups. The job requires adhering to health and safety practices and possibly undertaking other reasonable tasks as directed by your Line Manager, contributing to a shared responsibility within the department.
