Main Purpose:
A full-time employment opportunity has arisen at our Milford Haven Oil Terminal in Pembrokeshire for an individual seeking an exciting and rewarding career within the oil industry. We are looking to hire a qualified, experienced Instrument Specialist to work within our Maintenance Department. Suitable applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and are required to hold a full UK driving licence.
The role is responsible for ensuring safe and reliable operation and regulatory compliance of terminal instrumentation, measurement and control equipment including tank gauging, product loading systems, safety instrumented systems and general instrumentation.
The role includes the supervision of a small team of instrument technicians. The successful applicant would also be expected to carry out “hands on” maintenance and repair.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
1. Planning and performing effective maintenance, fault diagnoses and repair of all microprocessor-based control, data acquisition and safety systems, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic instrumentation contained within the terminal in accordance with the relative specifications and standards.
2. Operation of the computerised maintenance planning system to ensure all planned maintenance is carried out to the required schedule and that planned and reactive maintenance is fully documented on completion.
3. Liaising with third party specialists and suppliers.
4. Developing improvements to improve safe, efficient and reliable operation of equipment.
5. Mentoring and supporting development of technicians - both direct reports and those working in the electrical team.
6. Actively participation in departmental safety meetings and ensure self-compliance and the compliance of direct reports with safe working practices at all times. Initiate and conduct safety talks as required.
7. Maintaining a professional attitude in all high priority or emergency situations and remain flexible during changing work priorities in order to ensure that the department runs efficiently and effectively.
8. Contributing as part of maintenance team to ensure that all maintenance issues requiring attention are dealt with efficiently and effectively and provide support for projects at other UK locations as required.
Competencies and Experience:
9. Time served apprentice or equivalent with significant instrument experience in oil or process industry, ideally with supervisory experience.
10. Ability to Interpret and understand company and manufacturers drawings, diagrams, instructions and specifications, and apply this information to fault find Instrument/Electrical systems and equipment
11. Must be physically fit and able to climb tanks and jetty equipment
12. Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
13. Experience in maintenance of safety instrumented systems ideally formally qualified to IEC 61511
14. CompEx qualified
15. Microsoft office skills
16. Numeric and analytical skills
17. Supervisory skills and good communication at all levels
Key Relationships and Department Overview:
18. Internal – Maintenance and operations supervision, UK procurement team / all department personnel, and other departments and sections when required
19. External – Contract supervision and agents, material suppliers and plant hire companies / Contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers
