The historic Malt Cross is an iconic bar and kitchen in the heart of Nottingham City Centre. The venue has been welcoming and
serving customers to its famous bar for almost 150 years.
We are looking for a new Casual Chef to join our team, primarily Friday to Monday shifts but potential for growth and flexibility
as we intend to grow the business in the future.
We are passionate about high quality food, made from locally sourced ingredients served in a welcoming, friendly, relaxed
environment filled with great music and lively events.
What’s more, as an independent venue, Malt Cross’s activity directly supports YMCA community projects in the city and across
Nottinghamshire.

Job Description
On a day to day basis, you can expect your role to include:
Preparation of meals from our lunch and dinner menus, offering freshly prepared, delicious meals.
Providing excellent buffet/banquet style food for bespoke events, such as conferences and weddings
Development and implementation of new, seasonal menus championing local producers and growers aligned to the Malt Cross ethos
Promoting a welcoming, inclusive and community-focused environment and working alongside the Malt Cross management team to deliver
an exceptional customer experience, which includes delivery of staff training
Responsibility for food safety, hygiene and compliance
We serve a wide range of food options from light lunch options, Sunday Roast sharing boards and a whole array of sharing options
for larger groups and events. We welcome your input to the design of the menus and your favourite dishes to bring new and
interesting dishes to our customers.
About You
We are looking for someone passionate about food and ingredients who has had experience as a Chef in a smaller kitchen
environment. With experience in either café style kitchen or larger restaurant kitchen, you will be comfortable working as part of
a small team where team spirit is everything.
This is a busy and varied role and you must be able to flexible to meet the needs of the kitchen on any given day.
From your experience, you will have a strong awareness of current food industry product trends as well as a good working knowledge
of Health and Safety and Food and Drink preparation practices; being Advance Hygiene Qualified or CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene
Qualified and/or holding NVQ Level 2 Food Preparation or equivalent qualification is desirable.
As to be expected with a role of this nature, evenings and weekends shifts will form the majority of your shifts.
