Dealing with difficult, distressing situations and alerting the nursing or clinical staff to patients or situations which are cause for concern, e.g., chest pains and chemo patients, to access equipment urgently for patients until a nurse is alerted. Receive sealed medical samples for hospital analysis from the public to transfer to the lab. Dealing with general enquiries via the telephone (24 hrs) and in person including difficult and frequent emotional situations with patient, public, agencies and staff. Ensuring that patients and relatives always receive a welcoming professional and considerate approach and where appropriate to redirect these to other departments and outside agencies, this may frequently involve highly distressing or emotional circumstances or traumatic incidents Check and print the daily bleep list ensuring that copies have been allocated across the main clinical areas of the department. Ensure alphabetical filing systems and retrievals of patient documentation as necessary. Manage Virtual Fracture Clinic appointments, referrals, and cancellations of Emergency Department patients. Scan all patients confidential information to eye clinics for future appointments. Responsibility for tracking patients documents, ensuring Data Protection guidelines are always complied with. Prepping all notes and sent to Medical Records daily. Responsibility of keys used to access, Police Office and safe keys, and other areas that hold confidential information with the department. Understanding the procedure for lockdown. Responsible for all stock control and ordering of all office equipment. At all times be able to empathise with vulnerable patients and people attending the Emergency Department who require language support or have any other disability or sensory needs, assisting with deaf patients with the T-loop system and sign live system. Communication with distressed patients/relatives escorting them to the Quiet Room and liaising with clinicians.
