Portsmouth Water are seeking a skilled and proactive Design Engineers to join our team and contribute to the development, delivery, and commissioning of efficient engineering solutions across the Asset and Programme Delivery lifecycle. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in creating and managing the directorate’s technical standard design suite for water and wastewater infrastructure.
As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the consistency, quality, compliance, and development of all designs related to water systems, including technical specifications, control philosophies, standard designs, drawings, and design calculations. This role is integral to the effective management of design, construction, and maintenance of water systems, ensuring adherence to regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, maintain, and manage the directorate's technical standard design suite.
* Provide expertise on technical specifications/standards
* Oversee the planning and design of engineering projects, including water treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and network infrastructure.
* Design calculations for Water and Wastewater Infrastructure
* Ensure all designs meet regulatory, safety and environmental standards
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, project management, strategic partners, and regulatory bodies, to ensure the reliable, efficient, and compliant design of water services.
* Manage the continuous improvement of design standards and practices to enhance the delivery of engineering solutions.
* Provide technical advice and support during the construction and commissioning phases.
* Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, regulations, and innovations to ensure designs meet the latest standards.
What do you need?
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
* Proven experience in the design and management of water and/or wastewater infrastructure is desirable
* Strong knowledge of technical specifications, control philosophies, standard designs, drawings, and design calculations.
* Familiarity with relevant regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and external regulatory bodies.
* Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
* Bachelors' degree in one of the following: Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years demonstratable experience.
* Proficient in engineering design and project management software (e.g. AutoCAD, Inventor, GIS, MS Project, Primavera).
