To work in the engineering department of the Friarage hospital estates team.
To provide a multi-skilled electrical/mechanical maintenance service within the Friarage Hospital including activities which are often complex and/or non-routine to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. This will include being part of the Estates on-call team out of hours for which additional payment applies. This post is more specific for mechanically trained persons and site specific electrical understanding/training will be undertaken.
Carrying out a large range of multi-skilled duties, the post holder forms part of a maintenance/installation team working across all engineering skills, liaising with management and staff at all levels throughout the Trust and other areas of responsibility.
The work does involve lone working which requires candidates to be able to identify various alarms and work in restricted places; it is therefore essential that candidates read the Job Description and are able to undertake all tasks required.
Users of the service should receive a high level of Customer Service in a polite efficient manner by staff with a high standard of personal presentation and hygiene.
Main duties of the job
Mechanical engineering bias with an element of electrical engineering.
To undertake work appropriate to their core specialist skill to an above base level in an environment where work is managed rather than supervised.
To work across trades as necessary, actively taking on board new skills and participating in training to improve efficiency within the Estates Department.
To manufacture, assemble, erect and install new work.
To carry out repairs, maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment in potentially hazardous environments and in unpleasant working conditions with either PPM or reactive maintenance.
To work outside normal working hours, when available.
Ensures that the materials and equipment are used safely, securely and economically.
Following induction and departmental training, maintains a working knowledge of Trust Policies, Procedures, Departmental Working Instructions and Codes of Practice ensuring they are implemented and complied with at all times.
Actively participates and co-operates with other members of staff to improve and develop a high standard of service.
Occasionally the post holder will be required to access unpleasant working areas such as confined spaces, drainage systems and plant rooms and may be exposed to sewage, fumes, dust and dirt.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* City & Guilds NVQ level 3 and above or relevant experience in a Hospital Estates environment with engineering training.
* BTEC, ONC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Completion of recognised and registered CITB or EITB apprenticeship.
* GCSE in Maths and English (A-C/4-9) or Functional Skills (level 2).
* First aid at work.
* Competent persons Medical gas pipeline systems course.
* Competent persons in ventilation systems.
* Competent persons in water systems (legionella awareness).
* Competent person in Decontamination (sterilisers).
* Safe release of trapped passengers from lifts.
Experience
* First aid knowledge especially electric shock treatment.
* Knowledge of permit to work systems.
* Knowledge of carrying out planned preventative maintenance on electrical/mechanical systems.
* Experience on heating and domestic hot and cold-water systems.
* Work activities relating to legionella, for example, TMV maintenance and water temperatures.
* Experience using PPM systems and permit to works.
* Experience within Healthcare environments.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of a range of engineering systems i.e., Heating, Ventilation, Hot and Cold-Water systems, steam, decontamination.
* Computer literate and keyboard skills.
* Experience working within the industry.
* Ability to work on own initiative without close supervision.
* Experience of working in an acute hospital environment.
