We’re transforming how we work within E&M and Property Services to create a more dynamic, efficient, and effective service – and this role is right at the heart of it.
It’s your chance to be part of something bigger – shaping the future of our services, leading from the front, and making a real difference every day.
Sound good? We’re looking for an Operations Team Manager – Technical Services to join the team.
What you'll be doing
You’ll build and lead a Technical Services team, delivering proactive and reactive Electrical, Mechanical and Field Automation support for Scottish Water’s operational assets and field teams across Scotland.
Safety is a top priority. You’ll support Health and Safety with technical investigations and embed a strong safety culture within Scottish Water and our supply chain, making sure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.
You’ll bridge the gap between technical standards and Capital projects, making sure best practices are followed every time. By creating simple, effective ways for teams to share ideas and feedback, you’ll keep us improving and delivering results.
When something goes wrong, your team will get to the root of the problem and make sure it doesn’t happen again. You’ll manage deep dives after incidents and investigate alternative resolutions for repeat failures, this will strengthen our asset resilience and reduce downtime.
You’re responsible for setting the technical standards for the E&M and Property Services team. You’ll team up with the MEICA Academy to make those standards stick and turn them into the bedrock of how we operate. And as part of this, you’ll lead our technical strategy for maintaining legacy equipment, all while driving innovation and embracing new technology to keep us ahead of the curve.
What you'll need
You’ll bring at least 10 years of hands-on and technical experience, backed up with an HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical or Automation Engineering.
You know how to build a high-performing team and help people reach their full potential. Through coaching, delegation, and support, you’ll have a proven track record of guiding teams to deliver outstanding results.
You’re a problem solver through and through. Complex challenges? You’ll crack them with creative thinking and clever solutions. And when it comes to the tricky stuff, you’ve got a way of explaining it that just makes sense.
You’re a natural communicator and skilled influencer. Whether it’s chatting with frontline teams or collaborating with stakeholders, you know how to get people on board. Coaching, mentoring, or bringing people together – it’s what you do best.
With so much of this role being digital-first, you’re right at home using IT tools like Office 365 to keep everything ticking along smoothly. And since you’ll be traveling throughout Scotland, a full driving licence is a must.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
This is a full time (35 hours per week) role, Monday to Friday. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 8. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £48,900. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £68,510.
There’s no set standby for this role, but you’ll need to be flexible and ready to step in if an incident crops up out of hours.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Sunday 9 February 2025.
