Summary of the role
This full-time post is available immediately in Technical Strategy & Operations Services, within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The Technical Manager (Teaching) position will primarily support the technical teaching team within the Biosciences laboratories based in the Geoffrey Pope building on Streatham campus.
The post holder will have responsibility for the management of two teaching laboratories and supporting areas, including Health & Safety of the laboratories, managing COSHH and Risk Assessments, and being responsible for the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of their team. This team supports teaching with the preparation, sourcing, and clearing away of all materials for teaching modules. The holder will be required to liaise with academic staff on module requirements and ensure materials are purchased for the Undergraduate taught programmes. The successful applicant will control all levels of stock materials, maintain the teaching stock of micro-organisms, arrange servicing of general teaching laboratory equipment, and liaise with purchasing on the procurement of any large equipment. The holder will help with the filling of the NMR and moving the liquid nitrogen dewar out for refill and returning the dewar to the building.
This role exists to support our Academics in a non-teaching capacity, enabling them to deliver their teaching from 08:30 am until 18:30 pm; the timetable may require the need to work on Saturdays. The post is full-time (36.5 hours per week) and the working pattern will include a start time of 8:00 am and/or a finish time of 19:00 pm including Saturdays at agreed times as part of a staffing rota.

This role is within the Technical Strategy & Operations part of the Division. We are research and teaching technical staff across the entirety of the University of Exeter, undertaking and supporting research and teaching and promoting compliance and best practice in the labs, studios, workshops, and field.
The service is comprised of a team of talented individuals who support our teaching and research and in training the next generation of top scientists. Our technical roles, which include experimental officers, laboratory technicians, and research technicians, all focus on different aspects of science and humanities.
