Using modern and exciting technologies we are currently rebuilding our services leveraging a cloud-first approach using AWS and Azure technologies. Our delivery squads follow a DevOps model and are responsible for the full life-cycle of their product. As an engineer in one of the Cloud teams, youll get to work across a wide range of systems and environments. As a team, were responsible for designing, building, and operating cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or Azure. We're investing constantly invest in our Cloud Platform so our application teams can build scalable, secure, and resilient systems, capable of supporting millions of transactions for UK Citizens. At DVLA you will get to work with a lot of exciting new technology, we get to trial multiple products and choose the best. These are some of the tools and technologies you will be using: EKS and AWS lambda (nodejs): to run our services. Orgformation: to manage our AWS landing zone. Instana: to monitor everything. ArgoCD: to deploy our applications. Azure EntraID: for our identities. Elastic: to ship our logs. Cloudformation/Terraform: for all of our Infrastructure code. Pagerduty: to alert. Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to: Developing code to meet user needs. Following best-practice guidelines and help to improve those guidelines. Writing clean, secure and well tested code. Coaching and mentoring more junior colleagues. Operating the services they build and identifying issues in production. Additional Information There is an opportunity to be available on a rota basis to cover/undertake out of hours activities and provide on call cover to support delivery of the service (5pm - 7am, Monday - Friday and 24/7 on weekends) for which an allowance will be paid. Person specification To be successful in this role you will need experience working as a developer across multiple teams and projects. You will need to have delivered Cloud based services using modern technologies and tools. Have experience working within an Agile Delivery Team to ensure that deliveries meet business requirements and is sufficiently tested. As the successful candidate you will need to be comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity, and to be interested in distributing systems and writing resilient code.
