Here at Derian House Children’s Hospice, we have an exciting opportunity available for a Chair of Trustees to join our team based in Chorley on a voluntary basis. About us: Derian House Children’s Hospice is proud to have been providing high-quality care to children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions for over 30 years. The Derian House care team provides symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care, as well as short break respite care to children, young people and their families across Lancashire, South Cumbria and Greater Manchester. Supported by our dedicated community team, family support team, neonatal services and young people’s services we are able to provide a wide range of support and care in a variety of settings. About the role: As Chair of Trustees you will hold the Board and Senior Leadership Team to account for the Charity’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The Chair will also support, and, where appropriate, challenge the Chief Executive and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the Senior Leadership Team of the charity to achieve agreed objectives. He or she will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the Chief Executive. Your principal responsibilities as our Chair of Trustees will include: Provide leadership to the Charity and its Board, ensuring that the Charity has maximum impact for its beneficiaries Monitor the performance and impact of the Trustees in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Charity Responsibility for the Board operating within its charitable objectives, and provide a clear strategic direction for the Charity Put arrangements in place so that the Board is able to regularly review major risks and associated opportunities, and satisfy itself that it can take advantage of opportunities, and manage and mitigate the risks Responsibility for the Board fulfilling its duties to maintain sound financial health of the Charity, with systems in place to allow financial accountability Responsibility for governance arrangements working in the most effective way for the Charity Developing the knowledge and capability of the Board of Trustees Encouraging positive change and, where appropriate, address and resolve any conflicts within the Board Appraising the performance of the Trustees and the Board on an annual basis Regularly refreshing the Board of Trustees incorporating the right balance of skills, knowledge and experience needed to govern and lead the Charity effectively, reflecting the wider population Working within any agreed policies adopted by the Charity Act as an ambassador for the cause and the Charity Act as a spokesperson for the organisation when appropriate Represent the charity at external functions, meetings and events Facilitate change and address any potential conflict with external stakeholders If you have the skills and experience to become our Chair of Trustees, click ‘ Apply ’ now – we’d love to hear from you Registered Charity Number 1005165 Derian House is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of their sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality or national or ethnic origin.
