About the Role
Cloudhouse is looking to hire an experienced Technical Author (based in London) to join the Documentation Team. Currently, the team is working on multiple projects aimed at improving the overall quality of documentation by assessing existing processes, help systems, and standards of working – then, identifying areas for improvement. If you have an interest in starting the documentation journey from the ground up and having a true say in how the documentation life cycle is shaped, this may be the role for you.
Experience using MadCap Flare is a requirement. Any evidence you may have of your skills or experience in this area is advantageous.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to both large and small-scale projects, working both individually and as part of a team.
* Collaborate with software developers, product owners, and department leads to understand the scope of the documentation requirements for your allocated product(s).
* Create and maintain guidelines and templates for documentation to ensure consistency and clarity.
* Work closely with team members to identify gaps in existing documentation and prioritise documentation needs.
* Review and edit documentation produced by various teams to ensure quality, clarity, and adherence to established standards.
* Provide guidance and support to team members on technical writing best practices.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that customer-facing documentation meets user needs and aligns with the platform's capabilities.
* Identify areas for process improvement in documentation creation and maintenance and propose innovative solutions.
* Investigate product functionality and build documentation from scratch, using demonstrations, regular communication, and previous documentation to inform.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Technical Author, Technical Writer, or similar role in the software industry.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
* Experience using MadCap Flare to create product documentation and build help systems.
* Strong technical background and understanding of software development concepts.
* Experience working on medium to large-scale independent written projects.
Additional Experience
* Knowledge of AWS cloud infrastructure and/or legacy operating systems is advantageous.
* Familiar with Windows and Linux operating systems.
* Experience in DevOps, Security, or Compliance IT sectors.
* Experience creating documentation processes and/or projects from scratch.
