We are looking to employ a Sister/Charge Nurse to assist and support the leadership team to innovate services and care for our staff.
Our department runs virtual and face to face clinics and is part of a larger service in the Clinical Support Services Directorate. We support growth and education in the workforce and fund speciality specific courses, as agreed at learning panels.
Main duties of the job
* Support the Outpatients Manager to manage a team of nurses ensuring the delivery of best evidence based practice.
* Support the Outpatients Manager to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
* Take responsibility for the day to day management of the clinical area.
* Take the lead for specific areas of professional practice as delegated by the Outpatients Manager.
* Deputise for the Outpatients Manager during periods of absence.
* Manage preceptorship of newly qualified staff, return to nursing staff, and mentorship of nursing students and health care support workers.
* Act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
* Support the Outpatients Manager to manage a team of nurses ensuring the delivery of best evidence based practice.
* Support the Outpatients Manager to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
* Take responsibility for the day to day management of the clinical area.
* Take the lead for specific areas of professional practice as delegated by the Outpatients Manager.
* Deputise for the Outpatients Manager during periods of absence.
* Manage preceptorship of newly qualified staff, return to nursing staff, and mentorship of nursing students and health care support workers.
* Act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
* Deliver a high standard of care without direct supervision, based upon a sound evidence base.
* Undertake and document a comprehensive systematic and accurate nursing assessment and management of patients where appropriate.
* Create and utilize opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients.
* Undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff.
* Monitor management responsibility through spot checks and care quality indicators outcome measures.
* Influence and monitor the standards of direct patient care delivery in accordance with best practice and operational protocols and guidelines.
Managerial
* Deputise for the Outpatient Manager in his/her absence and represent at meetings both internal and external as required.
* Ensure staff are supported with their development and completion of competency programme, to enable them to fulfil their role. Create an environment which facilitates learning and structured personal development for nursing staff to ensure own competence and own personal development plan is reviewed during appraisal with the Outpatient Manager.
* Ensure local induction takes place for all new temporary workers and records are maintained.
Professional
* Act as an ambassador for the clinical environment and the Trust, where appropriate, by promoting a professional image of nursing.
* Work within the NMC Code at all times.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Responsible for identifying risks, assisting, and managing risk assessment in line with Trust policy.

Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse
* Level of experience
* Post basic qualification relevant to post
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Evidence of ongoing development
* Leadership course or mentoring course
Experience & Knowledge
* Minimum of 18 months working within a demanding clinical area.
* Demonstrates the ability to effectively manage resources.
* Proven leadership skills, including team building, change management.
* Demonstrate commitment and ability to support staff teaching, research & education.
Personal Qualities
* Ability to work flexible rostering with appropriate notice to meet operational needs of the organization.
* Responsible
* Ability to work under pressure.
Skills & Abilities
* Able to pass Occupational Health Clearance.
* Able to maintain professional appearance. Physical capability to perform nursing duties, including moving and handling of patients.
* Evidence of innovation within current areas of practice. Evidence of the ability to facilitate changes in practice.
