The Food, Health, and Safety Compliance Technologist plays a crucial role in ensuring site-wide compliance with food safety, health, and ethical standards, while balancing operational efficiency. A key responsibility is to oversee operations on weekends, counterbalancing the Shift Operations Manager to ensure activities align with regulatory requirements and customer expectations. This includes monitoring operational decisions, identifying risks, and driving corrective actions to maintain a safe and compliant environment. Additionally, the role involves leading internal audits for food safety systems (HACCP, hygiene), health and safety protocols, and Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) compliance. The technologist will also be responsible for analysing audit trends, preparing for external audits, conducting spot checks, and managing supplier compliance. Supporting risk reduction initiatives, assessing staff competency, and collaborating across departments to drive continuous improvement are central to this role, ensuring a safe and efficient workplace Main duties: Counterbalancing the Shift Operations Manager on Weekends Act as a key point of oversight to ensure that operational activities led by the Shift Operations Manager meet all regulatory and customer-specific compliance standards, with a focus on food safety, health, and safety requirements. Provide guidance and input on operational decisions to ensure they align with site-wide compliance protocols and customer expectations. Regularly review operations, identifying potential risks to compliance or safety, and work with the Shift Operations Manager to implement corrective actions swiftly. Collaborate with the Shift Operations Manager to balance operational efficiency with strict adherence to compliance and safety standards, ensuring smooth production while meeting audit and regulatory expectations Main auditor for internal auditing program Regular Audits of Food Safety Protocols: Conduct routine internal audits of food safety systems (HACCP, hygiene, allergen control) to identify non-conformances, improvement areas, and compliance gaps. Health and Safety Audits: Perform internal audits of health and safety protocols to assess compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, risk assessments, and other legal obligations. Ethical Trading Initiative auditing; Conduct regular audits in line with the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code, ensuring that the company adheres to ethical labour practices, including fair wages, safe working conditions, and workers' rights. Audit Reporting: Develop detailed audit reports, highlighting areas of non-compliance and making clear, actionable recommendations for improvement. Verification Corrective Action Plans: Verify corrective actions completion arising from audits. Pre-Audit Preparation: Prepare the business for external audits (e.g., by regulatory bodies, third-party certifications), ensuring all necessary documentation and procedures are in place Continuous Improvement Trend Analysis: Regularly review audit findings, incidents, and near-misses to identify trends and areas for proactive improvement. Employee Feedback: Gather feedback from employees on food safety and health practices, using it to improve internal processes and address concerns Monitor Compliance Ongoing Compliance Checks: Carry out routine spot-checks and inspections across various stages and all shifts for all process to ensure compliance with FSA, HSE, and company standards. Supplier Monitoring: Conduct periodic reviews of supplier compliance systems to ensure that all ingredients meet company and legal standards for safety and quality. Documentation Management: Ensure that all internal processes are properly documented, including audit records, corrective actions, staff training records, and compliance certificates Risk Management and Incident Investigation: Incident Auditing: Conduct thorough internal audits following incidents, accidents, or near-misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective measures to prevent future occurrences. Risk Reduction Strategies: Collaborate with department heads and teams to implement preventative measures and risk reduction strategies identified through audits or incident investigations. Health and Safety Risk Assessments: Support department heads to review and update risk assessments at required frequency, ensuring that any new equipment, processes, or operations are properly assessed for risks Who we are looking for: Qualifications: Audit-Specific Training: Certification in internal auditing (e.g., ISO 22000, lead auditor, BRC Global Standards) or similar credentials focused on food safety and health & safety audits. Food Safety Qualifications: HACCP Level 3 (or above) Level 3 (or above) Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate. Health & Safety Qualifications: IOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent auditing-related qualification Skills & Experience: Experience in Internal Audits: Proven experience in conducting internal audits in a food production environment, with a focus on corrective actions and continuous improvement Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse audit data and trends to identify areas of improvement. Problem-solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues and recommend practical solutions to compliance challenges. Attention to Detail: Thorough in auditing processes, identifying non-conformances, and ensuring corrective actions are completed. Leadership and Communication: Skilled in communicating audit findings and driving action through collaboration with other departments. Process Improvement Expertise: Knowledgeable in Lean or Six Sigma methodologies for optimizing compliance processes.
