PROGRAM PURPOSE:
The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is a national public health non-profit agency focused on improving public health by strengthening state and national leadership and expertise for chronic disease prevention and control. NACDD promotes health and reduces the burden of chronic disease through various programs and initiatives in collaboration with the CDC.
The Public Health AmeriCorps (PHA) program supports the recruitment, training, and development of the next generation of public health leaders, placing Service Members across twenty states to advance efforts around food and nutrition security, physical activity access, social connectedness, and health equity.
SPECIFIC SERVICE FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Engage in and support activities that align with Missouri’s State Physical Activity and Nutrition (SPAN) program.
2. Promote statewide Federal Food Service Guideline and Healthy Eating Research Guideline initiatives.
3. Assist with expanding fruit and vegetable voucher incentive and produce prescription programs.
4. Support statewide Early Care and Education (ECE) programs.
5. Assist with statewide breastfeeding initiatives.
6. Collaborate with local governments and organizations in promoting Complete Streets.
DESCRIPTION OF ANTICIPATED SERVICE SCHEDULE:
* Hybrid service hours, approximately 20-50% onsite and 50-80% teleservice.
* Service hours are to be completed Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm CT.
* A maximum of 20% of service hours may be training-related.
* A maximum of 10% of service hours may be fundraising activities.

REQUIRED COMMITMENT:
* Complete 1200 service hours within one year.
* Service year: 02/03/2025 - 02/02/2026
ORIENTATION AND TRAINING:
* Pre-service orientation
* PHA-specific training
* Program-specific training
EVALUATION AND REPORTING:
* Complete quarterly assessments and monthly reflection forms.
* Participate in performance evaluations with Host Site supervisor.
* Submit service timesheets biweekly.
PUBLIC HEALTH AMERICORPS ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS:
* At least 18 years of age.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.
* Satisfy National Service Criminal History Check eligibility.
* Live within commutable distance of the Host Site.
OTHER PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS:
* Willingness to comply with vaccination and background check requirements.
* Must be an active student in Southeast Missouri State University’s B.S. Nutrition or M.S. Applied Nutrition program.
