Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Liquid Cooling

Due to continued expansion and company growth, an excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work in the Product Development department at Airedale, reporting into the Lead Mechanical Engineer. It involves working closely with a team of mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, and quality engineers to design and develop new Liquid Cooling products whilst maintaining the existing portfolio.
The role consists of working as part of a team to develop new Liquid Cooling product design projects in accordance with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and relevant SOM guidelines from concept through to full product launch.
You will support the Lead Mechanical Engineer where necessary and as a team will be responsible for creating design briefs for companywide approval, performance predictions, hitting cost targets, designing products with manufacturing and assembly in mind to allow labour targets to be met, project timescales, technical features, training, and all critical deliverables. Supplier technology plays an important part of new designs so it is anticipated that supplier and purchasing communication will be frequent. Preferred suppliers will be used wherever possible in a manner that ensures high quality products are available using the most efficient manufacturing processes.
Comparisons with competitors' products will be expected as projects require.
Job Requirements:
1. Carrying out engineering calculations
2. Creating performance prediction programs
3. Acoustic performance calculations
4. Selecting and specifying critical components to fulfil a design brief
5. Water system design and pump selection
6. Heat exchanger optimisation and knowledge of plate heat exchangers
7. Interface with Electrical Design, Controls, Research, and Laboratory teams
8. Creating 3D models, layout drawings, and schematics
9. Structuring Bills of Material
10. Implementing component upgrades on existing standard product ranges
11. Working to deadlines & cost requirements
An understanding of the following would be beneficial:
1. Air system design and fan selection
2. Refrigeration system design and component selection
3. Fin and tube coil design
Skills & Experience:
1. Degree Qualified in an Engineering discipline or relevant Science-based subject
2. 3 years+ HVAC product design experience
3. Good theoretical and practical understanding of thermodynamics
4. Good theoretical and practical understanding of fluid mechanics
5. Ability to work under own initiative
6. Ability to learn quickly and think laterally
7. Ability to work in a team and manage projects to completion
8. Effective communication skills at all levels
9. Experience of 3D modelling and 2D drafting
10. Ideally experience of the following software: MS Word, MS Excel, VBA, Solid Edge, AutoCAD 2D
