THE ROLE
The Lead Engineer role is a unique opportunity to develop the Pinwheel platform further leveraging data, AI and API integration to give our customers easily accessible insights and tools to support their carbon and biodiversity investments.
The role is a key leadership position within the executive team. Responsible for providing first-class technical leadership and, along with the team, create a compelling and competitive product vision and roadmap for the business. The lead is responsible for ensuring the technical platform and associated systems are built and maintained to the highest standards of security, compatibility, reliability and performance and for providing leadership and management to the technical function in pursuit of those objectives.
LEAD ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES
The role will be a developer first and foremost, delivering the highest quality user experience for a range of different users (e.g. customers, their stakeholders, carbon and biodiversity developers and the Pinwheel team).
The Role is expected to demonstrate technical and product leadership and ensure that the growing team delivers to high technical and customer facing standards. The role requires someone who continues to write code, liaising closely with other Pinwheel team members and building out an engineering team.
1. Set the strategic direction of all technology and product development, making sure these are aligned with the overall business strategy
2. Retain focus on selecting the right tech stack for the Pinwheel platform, including examining buy or build options for new products or features.
3. Ongoing review of the architecture of the platform, with particular focus on enable fast iterations and scalability
4. Maintain and refresh the product roadmap, including identifying product issues backlog and resolutions
5. Ongoing customer discussions and research to identify new opportunities and developments, showcasing and securing sign off on new products or features
The Lead Engineer will be Pinwheel’s main developer. They will be responsible for defining and developing features across the user groups. Specifically, the role will:
1. Set and update the product roadmap monthly
2. Agree scope and definition of features
3. Develop and test feature sets
4. Fix any bugs or issues as they occur
Data and security
Platform integrity is critical to Pinwheel’s success. The role will have responsibility for:
1. Ensuring Pinwheel meets the relevant data standards
2. Making data accessible by team members outside of the engineering team
3. Making data accessible to customers
4. Ensuring Pinwheel meets the relevant security standards
5. Ensuring high level of uptime
Team management
Pinwheel’s ambitions rest on its platform development. The role is expected to:
1. Hire and mentor new engineers
2. Maximise output with limited resources
3. Foster a culture of high-quality customer-centric development
4. Develop processes (including CI/CD pipelines and monitoring)
Executive leadership
An integral member of the Exec team, the role will play a fundamental leadership role:
1. Demonstrate and nurture the Pinwheel cultural values of honesty, integrity, respect, creativity, hard work and innovation
2. Play a leading role in the development of Pinwheel, it’s culture, operations, values and financial performance
