Te Hira Care Home provides long term residential care for older people living with Dementia. We provide a high quality of care 24 hours a day, with our values of pride, respect, fulfillment, choice, kindness, and compassion influencing everything that we do.
Working with elderly people and those with dementia is a hugely rewarding job. We are looking for a cook to join our dedicated team.
The ideal candidate must be able to prepare a variety of home cooked family style meals and puddings for up to 18 people. Whilst previous experience of working in a kitchen and knowledge of food hygiene standards and dietary requirements would be an advantage, it is not essential as all training will be provided.
Hours: 12.5 hrs per week - (2.5 hrs per day, 10:30 - 13:00 Monday - Friday)
Job Description:
- Cook a variety of homemade meals and puddings including vegetarian options
- Maintain food hygiene standards
- Be accountable for maintaining and cleaning the kitchen and all appliances including fridges and freezers to health & hygiene standards
- To always ensure a high standard of personal cleanliness and hygiene following industry guidance
- Talk with residents and understand their likes and dislikes
- Be part of the Te Hira team
- Be responsive to all training offered, including but not limited to - Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Safeguarding Adults
- To record all details of care given to residents on the digital care plan
- To be familiar with Te Hira Care Home policies and procedures and to abide by these
- To comply with Health & Safety, fire and other statutory regulations
- To be familiar with the National Care Standards and apply these to daily practice
- To attend handover reports and to ensure at the start of each shift you are familiar with residents’ conditions, or any changes in situation or arrangements within the home
- To actively encourage independence and respect residents’ rights to direct their own lives
- To always represent Te Hira Care Home in a positive manner both when at work and outside of work
- To report any incidents or accidents immediately to management
- To report any concerns or complaints expressed by the residents to management
- To attend staff meetings as required
- To participate in training as identified in your personal development assessments be this via an online platform in your own time, face to face, training at another location or in house training
- To maintain confidentiality in relation to the personal and private affairs of the residents
- To maintain confidentiality in relation to the business/affairs of Te Hira Care Home
- To be familiar with Data Protection Act 1998 and ensure that all personal records are handled in line with this legislation
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as delegated by your manager
Training may come in a variety of ways: Face to face, printable manuals/support tools, and online courses.

On starting the role:
- Induction to Te Hira Care Home
- Food Hygiene certification - online course
- Other online courses as required
- Three month probationary period
