Research Fellow in Planetary Climate Physics
Dr João M. Mendonça invites applications for a 3-year full-time Postdoctoral Researcher position in Planetary climate physics. The successful applicant will join the new research group in planetary sciences at the University of Southampton, funded by a Horizon Europe Guarantee grant.
We are looking to hire a Postdoctoral Researcher in Planetary Climate Physics to join the newly established group at the University of Southampton, led by Dr. João M. Mendonça. This group focuses on developing an innovative class of 3D climate models, specifically the OASIS model, which aims to overcome current limitations and enable unprecedented simulations of planetary climates.
The group is engaged in international collaborations, and this position includes allocated funding for professional travel, which may involve research visits at collaborating institutions such as UCL and Caltech.
The successful applicant will primarily work on implementing novel climate physics in the OASIS model, focusing on moist physics, cloud formation, and convection. Candidates should have research experience in planetary sciences, particularly in the atmospheres of Earth, Solar System planets, or exoplanets. During the 3-year appointment, the successful applicant will contribute to the development of the 3D OASIS model and have the opportunity to conduct independent research.
The start date is flexible but is expected to be in the fall of 2025. Candidates should possess a PhD or equivalent qualifications and/or experience in Earth, Planetary, or Exoplanetary Sciences by the time the appointment begins.
Applications should include:
1. Research Statement (max 2 pages)
2. Name and contact details of two references
We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion and welcome applicants who support our mission of inclusivity.
