Join Our Team and Change Lives: Automotive Engineering Mentor
Location: Mansfield
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £23,500 - £25,550 per annum
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Start Date: ASAP (we’re flexible for the right person)
Not Your Average Job. Not Your Average Impact.
Do you have a knack for Automotive Engineering? Are you a natural problem-solver who thrives on getting stuck into projects like welding, bodywork, or paint jobs? Ever thought about sharing your skills with young people who haven’t thrived in mainstream education?
Here’s your chance to transform your career—and the lives of others—by joining a school that believes every child deserves a shot at success, no matter their background.
We’re looking for someone with a Level 2 qualification in Automotive Engineering (or a related field) to mentor students aged 11-16, mainly Key Stage 3, through hands-on, vocational lessons. You’ll work with teaching staff to deliver practical sessions that inspire, engage, and empower students to find their spark—helping them build confidence and skills for life.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Engaging lessons: Create fun, practical workshops in Automotive Engineering, welding, and body repair that capture imaginations and build real-world skills.
* Mentoring: Support students who’ve struggled in traditional classroom settings to feel valued, capable, and part of something meaningful.
* Collaborating: Work closely with teaching staff to develop a vocational learning program that meets the needs of each individual child.
Who We’re Looking For:
We don’t need you to have a teaching background. We need you to have:
* A passion for helping young people succeed.
* A strong foundation in Automotive Engineering, construction, or similar.
* The ability to adapt, learn, and meet the needs of children who need extra support.
* A belief that education doesn’t have to be mainstream to make a difference.
You might already be working in engineering, construction, or the automotive industry—but if you’ve ever thought, “I could really make a difference with these skills,” this is your sign to go for it.
Teaching qualifications are a bonus, but not essential. If you have them, fantastic! If not, we’ll give you all the support you need to succeed.
Why You’ll Love This Role:
* Impact: You’ll see the difference you make every single day as students discover new interests and talents.
* Training: No teaching qualifications? No problem. We’ll give you a full week of induction, plenty of ongoing support, and opportunities to grow your skills.
* Team: Join a close-knit school team that’s all about creating engaging, non-mainstream learning environments where everyone thrives.
* Purpose: This isn’t just a job—it’s a chance to make a real difference in the local community, supporting young people who need it the most.
About the School:
The school is small, supportive, and laser-focused on helping students who haven’t thrived in traditional education. They believe in creating a fun, inclusive atmosphere where kids can flourish through hands-on, vocational activities.
Next Steps:
1. Complete a comprehensive application and vetting form.
2. If shortlisted, you’ll meet the school’s Senior Leadership Team for a no-pressure, 45-minute chat.
Full vetting must be completed before you start.
