Role Summary: This role will lead the design team in developing comprehensive and compliant railway designs based on specified requirements. This role involves ensuring the alignment of design solutions with regulatory standards, project goals, and stakeholder expectations. Function: The Delivery function is accountable for delivering an asset which aligns to the Sponsor requirements, establishing a safe, reliable and integrated railway. Delivery will demonstrate delivery excellence through technical innovation and design excellence, underpinned by mature Programme controls to maximise the benefit of project delivery in relation to public pound spent. The Delivery function will act as an intelligent and informed integrated team, that uses a network of third-party strategic suppliers to leverage the capabilities required to deliver the asset. Key Responsibilities • Lead the design manager team in creating detailed and accurate railway designs that meet project requirements and regulatory standards. • Coordinate with project managers, technical subject matter experts, and sponsorship to ensure design solutions are deliverable, operable, and maintainable, and deliver the set requirements. • Oversee the development of design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports. • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines throughout the design process. • Manage the review and approval process for design submissions, addressing any feedback or revisions as necessary. • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the design team and with external consultants and contractors. • Monitor design progress, identify potential issues, and implement solutions to maintain project timelines and quality standards. • Support and design and management of EWR's digital spine, which encourages the use of technology to manage key design information. • Responsible for managing and supporting direct reports including: coaching and developing team members to drive individual growth and operational excellence. Leading continuous improvement, through regular performance management and ensuring compliance with organisation policies and updating relevant systems. • Take responsibility of your own and others' health and safety by adopting and working to the EWR Co Health and Safety principles. • Demonstrates a cost-conscious mindset, keeping tax payers' money at the forefront of decisions. • Shows a commitment to innovation by proactively seeking creative solutions to challenges and opportunities. • Act as a role model for EWR Co's vision and behaviours, working in ways that are aligned with EWR Co's Ways of Working, as well as encouraging and supporting others to do so too. • Provide leadership and support for the execution of the EWR Delivery Strategy. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise • Significant working experience in railway design or a related field, with a proven track record of leading design teams on large-scale infrastructure projects. • Extensive knowledge of railway design principles, standards, and regulatory requirements. • Demonstrate adoption of standardisation and modern method of construction principles and the benefits that were realised. • Demonstrate ability resolve problems / mitigate risks / opportunity realisation. • Strong leadership and project management skills, with experience in coordinating multidisciplinary design teams. • Demonstrate a strong outcome focus.
