We are insight-led and results-driven, and our marketing campaigns support strategic objectives using a wide range of channels. As a member of the Communications Directorate, you will be supporting our mission to deliver outstanding public services that work for everyone. You will join a multi-disciplinary team with colleagues based across the UK, working together to deliver the Home Office’s communications strategy.

The Communications Director’s Office sits at the heart of the Communications Directorate: supporting the delivery of our comms strategy through effective people management; helping everyone in the Directorate to understand legal and corporate reporting requirements, HR processes and our financial position; and providing first class strategic and administrative support to the senior leadership team and the directorate.
An exciting post, you will join a small, well-functioning team at an important time. Reporting to the G7 Private Secretary, you will work flexibly with another Assistant Private Secretary, with your own unique areas of responsibility. The role is fast-paced and varied, and you will have the opportunity to get involved in a range of interesting and challenging tasks and projects across the directorate.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with senior leaders and the Director’s Office to ensure a seamless and efficient support for the communications directorate. You will develop a keen understanding of the directorate's objectives, effectively prioritise tasks and work collaboratively with teams in the Home Office and beyond to support their delivery.
* Provide diary management to Deputy Directors (and on occasion, the Director of Communications), ensuring the most efficient use of their time. This will include anticipating future diary pressures, leading on logistics for meetings and travel, sharing information, and building relationships with colleagues across government.
* Ensure the senior leadership team are fully prepared for meetings and daily business by collating papers, requesting briefings and providing secretariat support when needed.
* Lead on managing Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, correspondence and parliamentary questions in the directorate, including commissioning and clearing responses, tracking cases and seeking ways to improve processes.
* Act as business continuity lead for the directorate, including testing and updating business continuity plans and keeping the directorate up to date.
* Work with SEO to manage directorate budgets, using negotiation and influencing to ensure value for money, and tracking transactions.
* Support SEO on procurement and championing rollouts of new technology and systems, including upskilling staff and troubleshooting.
* Manage the press office out of hours duty system, including coordinating requests for staff availability, and working across the directorate to assure resourcing.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
