This role will require the successful candidate to provide a high-quality, evidence-based service, which promotes participation and physical skills of children and young people in home, school, and family life.

Role Requirements
You will support community service provision, offering virtual advice and brain injury education, early supported discharge from inpatient neurorehabilitation at The Childrens Trust, outpatient packages, and community rehabilitation in the Southeast (restricted postcode locations), ensuring high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy assessment and interventions to children and young people with acquired brain injury and neurodisability.
Our service delivery aims to promote outcome-focused interventions, safe care, function, and participation of children and young people accessing home, school, and community life. You will support children and young people with functional activity within a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency setting.
With experience of working in a complex environment, across a large and diverse workforce, you will be exceptionally organised with a high level of attention to detail. You will naturally possess excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to consult and positively engage with key stakeholders across the organisation.

The Childrens Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with acquired brain injury, providing expert rehabilitation, education, therapy, and care at our national specialist centre in Tadworth, and to children and their families across the UK, via our Brain Injury Community Service.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Skills and Responsibilities
1. Provide high quality, evidence-based Occupational Therapy provision for children and young people receiving support from community rehabilitation services in partnership with other members of the multiprofessional team.
2. Undertake Occupational Therapy assessments of children with a range of needs including highly complex needs.
3. Devise and carry out therapeutic interventions that are developmentally appropriate and goal-directed with support from senior members of the team.
4. Devise suitable, individualised occupational therapy programmes/strategies that fit within the child’s daily routine, whether to be carried out by parents, educators or members of the Multiprofessional Team, these should be monitored, evaluated and adjusted appropriately according to the needs of the child.
5. Develop therapy goals, in collaboration and with the child and family/carers, as well as the multiprofessional team, to maximise recovery and facilitate the participation of the child in their daily life.
6. Provide a range of occupational therapy interventions for outpatient intervention packages e.g. upper limb assessment and programmes.
7. Work closely with all members of the Multiprofessional Team, as well as the child and family, to provide a fully integrated approach to the overall management of the child. This will include any home/school visits, professional child-related meetings and/or appointments, as required.
8. Provide clinical cover across the service during episodes of staff shortage/heavy workload, in order to ensure effective service delivery.
9. Work flexibly in terms of hours, in order to meet the needs of the service.
10. Support the community team to deliver an early supported discharge model for children and young people residing in the Southeast.
11. Work collaboratively with the community and inpatient rehabilitation therapy teams to deliver timely assessments, goal setting, treatment planning, intensive therapy and meaningful outcomes for children and young people.
12. Work in collaboration with the inpatient therapy team and offer packages of intensive outpatient therapy at The Childrens Trust.
13. Provide effective, timely and concise information to inform children’s progress reporting, discharge planning and transfer of input to local community services.
14. Work collaboratively across the multiprofessional team, fostering positive working relationships, communication and coordination to achieve meaningful outcomes for children and their families.
15. To attend and contribute to occupational therapy Community team staff meetings and other meetings when appropriate.
16. To work on agreed areas of service development.
17. Provide clinical supervision monthly to MDT Technicians.
18. Undertake other or additional duties that are within your skills and abilities, as the organisation may reasonably require from time to time.
Management of self and others
1. Provide support and clinical supervision for multidisciplinary technicians and students, as required.
2. Participate in the annual Performance Development Review and monthly supervision sessions, as required by The Childrens Trust, both as Appraiser and Appraisee.
3. Manage time effectively, prioritising and delegating work appropriately and as required.
Communication
1. Communicate effectively with children and young people (applying the principles of consistent communication).
2. Facilitate effective communication with families and members of the Multi-professional Team.
3. Attend and contribute to Multi-professional Team meetings, to discuss individual children/ young people and service in general, as required e.g. reviews, case conferences, parents evenings, clinics, etc.
4. Keep appropriate and accurate intervention records, fulfilling legal, professional and all other requirements of The Childrens Trust.
5. Ensure documents are managed confidentially at all times.
6. To attend and contribute to Occupational Therapy staff meetings, Service meetings and other meetings when appropriate.

Person Specification
Experience
* Minimum of two years clinical experience post-basic qualification.
* Experience of working with children/young people and/or acquired brain injury.
* Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of working with families.
Skills & Abilities
* Clinical assessment and intervention skills relevant to children and young people with neuro-disability.
* Clinical reasoning skills, analysing a variety of evidence and presenting this in a relevant format e.g. report presentation.
* Workload management including delegation of tasks.
* Competent IT skills in order to collect and interpret data, present reports, and compile presentations.
* Competent verbal, non-verbal and written skills.
* Reflective practice skills, able to give clear and effective feedback and support others to develop.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of current research in acquired brain injury in paediatrics.
* Knowledge of relevant outcome measures relating to acquired brain injury and/or paediatric neurology.
* Podium and/or poster presentations at conferences.
