Job Purpose
The purpose of the job holder is to lead a team of scientists, technicians, and engineers to establish a pilot scale refining process to reclaim PGM and Ionomer from spent Fuel Cells, Electrolysers, and sub-componentry for recycling. The incumbent will be responsible for the safe commissioning, improving, and running of the Pilot Plant through the current recycling process and where required process adaptation to meet future business requirements.
Your Responsibilities
* Demonstrate leadership in EHS and contribute to all safety reviews within the Refining Business.
* Promote high environmental, health, and safety standards and behaviours for yourself and your co-workers.
* Ensure work is carried out in line with appropriate risk assessments (task-based risk, COSHH, manual handling, etc.) for development work.
* Drive root cause analysis of incidents within the Brimsdown site.
* Encourage innovation and creativity to deliver business objectives and seek opportunities for improvement.
* Lead key technical work for business development and improvement, including formulating project charters, planning, data analysis, and progress tracking.
* Review project documents such as process descriptions, safety bases, design basis, control strategies, mass balances, PFDs, P&ID’s, interlock matrices, process design, equipment specifications, mechanical design approvals, and vendor FATs.
* Guide commissioning of new and existing plant equipment.
* Provide process expertise for HAZOP studies and Process Hazard Reviews.
* Develop and enhance pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical, thermal, and concentration processes.
* Deliver operational process data analysis, issue resolution, and scale-up investigations.
* Assist Capital Projects with process flow diagrams, trials, and data collection.
* Manage and develop a team of Process Engineers, Chemists, and Technicians, providing coaching and mentorship.
Role Requirements
* A master’s degree in chemical engineering or a similar field – Essential.
* Over 5 years of demonstrated technical expertise in a specialized field – Essential.
* Substantial experience in process development or relevant operations – Essential.
* Understanding of heat and mass balances, P&IDs, PFDs, and other process documents – Desirable.
* Understanding of hazard studies – Essential.
* Experience in manufacturing of precious metals (high value) – Desirable.
