We have a vacancy for Nurse Vaccinator to support a new vaccine programme for pregnant women alongside the current vaccination offer.
We are looking for an enthusiastic registered midwife or nurse to facilitate the maternity immunisation service. The appointed candidate will posses exemplary communication skills to complete our team delivering this vital protection to our families during pregnancy.
The post holder will promote the programme to pregnant women to improve the uptake of vaccines in pregnancy in addition to running daily planned clinics and ad hoc to deliver flu, pertussis and RSV vaccines.
Our ideal candidate is confident with clinical records systems, skilled in discussing the benefits of vaccinations in pregnancy and efficient in delivering these in a fast paced environment
An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.
• The post holder will be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to promote and increase awareness of the maternal immunisation programme.
• The post holder will work collaboratively with wider system partners to encourage and influence endorsement of the maternal immunisation programme and contribute to target non-attenders and improve uptake.
• The post holder will attend the quarterly screening operational meetings to update the wider maternity team, to support and encourage service wide promotion of maternal immunisations.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

KEY DUTIES

PATIENT SAFETY & CLINICAL GOVERNANCE

• Follow the centre and national policies including Patient Group Directions (PGD’s) and national protocols or standard operating procedures are followed. These include SOPs on the safe storage, administration and disposal of the vaccine.
• Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of the health, safety and security of self and others in work area. Assist in the identification and assessment risks in work activities.
• Practise in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal codes of the site and its protocols and guidelines.
• Work with team to maintain high standards of infection control in the clinical area and a well-maintained department environment
• Actively promote diversity and sustain relationships that promote dignity, rights and responsibilities. Identify and take action to address discrimination and oppression.
• Ensure that the practice complies with Data Protection/ Confidentiality/ Caldicott principles in addition to Statutory and Regulatory guidelines of the Professional Bodies (NMC, GPhC, HCPC and others).
• Safeguard people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary.
• Reflect on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made.
• Maintain compliance with staff mandatory training requirements
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
• Regularly evaluate the way maternal immunisations are offered within the trust and have the ability to adapt to what is required for the local population and to improve uptake.
• Work with community groups/individuals vulnerable to non-participation to improve awareness of immunisations and access to immunisation programmes
• Ensure that a wide range of national/ approved leaflets and resources in different languages are available to offer along with information in accessible formats.
• Utilise translation materials and use of translator services where this is required.
• Work with colleagues in PCN/GP practices to ensure individuals vulnerable to non-participation are supported to access opportunistic vaccinations in an alternative setting if more appropriate e.g. GP practice.
• Develop local knowledge and expertise that will be key for service users.
• Develop insight work to understand the reasons why pregnant people decline the offer of vaccination.
• Reduce inequalities in uptake by targeted action amongst population groups with low uptake.
• Provide time and resources to service users to offer the information they need and address anxieties to promote and improve uptake of immunisations.
• Use every contact to also promote and educate service users about the childhood immunisation programme, and the importance of attending for these after the baby is born.
• Participate in research and clinical audit programmes pertinent to public health in maternity, demonstrating a knowledge of current research in all work aspects.
• Identify and deliver training to the multidisciplinary team to raise awareness of maternal immunisations.
• Collect and collate data as required in relation to public health in line with maternity data set, commissioning requirements, freedom of information requests.
• Develop and maintain databases required by the role.
• Develop maternity records to ensure vaccination is a mandatory question on electronic maternity notes.
• Ensure the dissemination and implementation of regional and national guidance.
